Okay, so I once traded a Taurus Model 606 .357 snubbie and Century International M1 Garand straight up for a Ruger mini-14 ranch rifle. I look back and realize that was one of the dumbest decisions I have ever made. Surely someone has made a dumber gun trade, sale, or purchase than that. C'mon, guys, make me feel not so stupid.

dumb deals

i have dealt away a lot of stuff over the years and lived to regret most of them. the latest; traded a smith-wesson 686 powerport pre-lock in box for a beretta 21 in .22. it was for a good cause though. my cousins husband is new to guns and he wanted it pretty bad. it has a good home and he turned into a gun nut. one more for our side. the bobcat fits nice in my pocket too.

I once traded

a Walther PPK for a S&W 5906. I loved the PPk but wanted a bigger caliber carry gun. I ended up hating the Smith and sold it to pay some bills.

Walter PPKS

Sold my "German" made Walter PPKS to my brother for $250 bucks.. Wanted a higher Cal...
(needed to be reblued).. he had it redone, removed the blue, and had it polished?? or replated stainless?? (not sure what was done) and wood grips put on.. looks like a million bucks now.. and he wont sell it back to me the &^%$#$%^&!!!...
Values going up for the German made Walters.. Should have kept it..

PPK for S&W 5906

wyattcl, was that S&W 5906 that you traded for an early series or the later series? I have a S&W 5906 that is a first year production pistol and it is the most reliable & dependable semi-auto firearm I've ever owned. The only fault I find with it is the trigger slack in the SA firing stage. It's very accurate and has never jammed with any type of ammo I've fed it, even my reloads. I don't care much for the later series of this model. The blued trigger & hammer doesn't look right on it and the feel of the pistol is completely different. JMHO based on the one I have.

Here's my dumbest deal

I was at a family get together at my sister-in-laws house,my kids come and tell me that they saw a gun in my nephews bedroom,I investigated and sure as shit there it was, a loaded Browning "DEtective" 9mm.

I scooped it up and took it home,"gonna have a talk with that young man in the morning"(he was 20 yrs old,he's got no daddy around). But his momma called at about 11p.m. crying about the gun being gone(she is a huge enabler)

I told her not to worry i had it,she was relieved,i talked to her son a little and the next day we met and i got the big eyed story from him about how he was going to be a good boy and all,so i explained the gun safety rules, explained the laws he had to abide to,and took him to the gun range.

At the range i showed him how to shoot, field strip, and clean that gun,and again got the big eyed "thanks Uncle".After going into more laws about gun ownership, etc.i dropped him off at home.

Next night he throws the gun out the window of a stolen car he was a passenger in,cop in pursuit saw it,found it and when confronted my nephew said i gave it to him and told him he could carry it around!

Cops get me down to the station, but before i had given my nephew the gun back i had copied the serial number down and all the other descriptive markings...just in case.

I have not had one thing to do with that kid since.

i tried being reasonable,i didn't like it, NRA LIFE MEMBER,USMC VETERAN

that is just so monstrous thing for the boy to do! and to turn on you like that and say you could carry it around! how deceitful a thing is that ka and you tried to do right by this young man. and you tried to help him and teach him and he do that you ka is just so terrible. you do right too by not ever having anything do with him ever again. ryo feel so bad for you my friend. hope nothing like such ever happen to you again. not know if you believe in God or not and it not ryo business, but if do then should pray for such a person because that about the only thing that could ever help him.
