Why is this bad?

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says it is irresponsible and shameful for Wall Street bankers to be paid huge bonuses at a time when the American public is dealing with economic hardship. The president reacted harshly Thursday to reports that corporate employees got paid more than $18 billion in bonuses last year.

Said Obama: "That is the height of irresponsibility. It is shameful."

The president said he and new Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will have direct conversations with corporate leaders to make the point.

Obama said there is a time for corporate leaders to make profits and get paid bonuses but now is "not that time."

If the companies giving out the bonuses are not receiving bailout money, and are making the money to give out the bonuses, how is it bad? Why do people have to explain or feel bad for being successful? Is Obama vowing to work for minimum wage? Are any of the congressmen vowing to donate most of their pay to the "less-fortunate" of their constituents? I wonder when the President's title is going to officially change to "Comrade".

I don't get mad at people for making millions of dollars a year as long as it's not supported by the bailout, and I don't see why people should get berated by the HSIC President Obama for giving their employees big bonuses if they can afford to do so. Is it not the American Dream to make a good living and provide for your family? If you have goods or services people are willing to pay for, why should you have "the most powerful man in the world" call you shameful?

hmmm

Let me give you my take on Obamas stance. Don't get me wrong I hate Obama.

A good majority of these people that got the big bonus checks work for companies like Merril Lynch, Pimerica ect ect. Those companys not only needed bail out money but their customers "the investors and retirment funds" lost huge money this year. So why should a Wallstreet broker get a 110k bonus when he or she lost millions of other peoples money in the market this year?

Then they absolutely should not be giving the bonuses. However, if you invest, there is always a risk, so giving bonuses to people who are bad at what they do is a business decision. A bad one, but not one the President should have any business getting involved in.

Come on now

It sure as hell is the governments buisness when they gave these firms bail out money already.

While talking bail out, I would like to say I don't think it will work. I think we are in big trouble. Part of the reason I have started collectiong guns.

Because we unfortunately now live in an incredibly Paternalistic Society, where everyone feels as though it is their right to be in everyone else's business and tell them how to live.

Paternalistic

Basically the meaning is that the government acts like your parent. They tell you what to spend your money on, when you can go to the bathroom, how many of anything that you can have. Paternal is just another term for parenting, you know, maternal=mother, paternal=father, or in this case it stands for both. It's similiar to when people use the term "Nanny State".

I pretty much could guess what it meant, I am so sick and tired of the middle class being "the red-headed step child", It doesn't matter who we vote for. We get lied to, taken advantage of, and we can't do a damn thing about it. This agenda of how to treat the people who break their backs to support their families, consistently are falling deeper and deeper into debt. Our money is devalued for the sake of a "One World " economy. Our schools have lowered their standards so the "no one gets left behind" I was in my sons grade school principals office ripping him a new asshole. They have wasted my kids time by only teaching them how to pass a very specific test with very specific questions. All this in the name of being in the top 5% in the school district. I'm not well read like some others, but I know when I smell bullshit! Our politicians used to be volunteers, to stand up for the public in their areas. Look what it has turned to now, an F------- Circus and we are the clowns! I do thank you for your info though, this has nothing to do with you. It's the system.....

I feel your pain.

This country has been on a path of destruction ever since the 1960's, and probably before then. It all started in the school system. When I worked for the school system, I saw first hand how our kids are being intrenched in political correctness. Brainwashed by the liberal educational system. There is no individualism anymore. Every child is treated just like every other child, regardless of what talents, gifts or level of intelligence that they have. It reminds me of the scene in "The Wall", when the kids are falling into the meat grinder. Our kids don't stand a snowballs chance in Hell.

to fund these fat cats who ruined the economy by giving out bad loans to worthless people who can't afford them, then shouldn't I have a say in where the money goes and who it goes to? I don't agree that the financial institutions should get one red cent of bailout money. Let the FREE MARKET dictate who survives in business. If you screw up, then you go out of business. If I were making bad decisions about my business, then I would be expected to take it on the chin if things were not going well. I wouldn't get money from the government because I am a dumbass, I would just go broke. That is how free enterprise works. I say screw them, let them go down just like any of us would in that situation.

Go ahead punk, Make My Day!
