Why I carry a gun
Sent to me by a friend Guns I don’t carry a gun to kill, I don’t carry a gun to scare people. I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid. I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil. I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government. I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry. I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy. I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I don’t carry a gun because I love it. Police Protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just Personally, I carry a gun because I’m too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin’. investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.
I talked to one of our BIPD lieutenants this weekend. We were teasing him saying that when seconds count, the police were only minutes away. He said that in 26 years of police work, he had been on the scene of a crime as it was going down only twice. And once, when he was trying to arrest a 300 pound drunk wrestler and asked for backup, the second officer took 15 minutes to arrive. Our island is about ten miles long and two or three miles wide with a state highway down the middle of it.

1.) A gun in hand is better than a cop on the phone.
2.) I carry a gun because it is easier than carrying a cop.

This is a recent example that happened to my dad. He was awaken at 1 a.m. about 1 month ago by the sound of somebody hitting the windows, they jiggled the door, and then went to 4 windows in the back of the house trying to open them. I dont' know if they thought nobody was home or not. Anyway, he called the police and gave his address. 30 mintues later, he sees two police cars show up and...keep driving past his house, they then turn around and pass it again...so he calls 911 again and tells them the police passed him up...the 911 operated told my father.."just go outside and wave when they drive by again"...Are you kidding me..go outside and wave the police in when somebody is outside trying to bust in. Anyway, he had my Glock 22 with him just in case, I always leave him a gun. By the way, my mom said that all he could talk about that night was how "cool" my nightsights were on the thing. Everything turned out alright in the end, they eventually picked 2 people up in the neighborhood that had gotten away from the cops earlier that night. So, no, you can't count on the police.

Military Police are not sworn LEOs, we don't get badges, so we suck, but even on a military installation, where the vast majority of people have had at least a felony records check just to get here, we still have assaults, drugs, gangs, drugs, drugs, DUIs, domestics, even some murders. Our patrols know the post, and most posts are pretty small compared to civilian towns, and we still don't respond in time to stop the majority or incidents from occurring. I can't understand how someone can call themself a man and not be able to protect their family from violent crime. That's not a macho thing, as I realize I am probably not going to stop the 9th Mongolian Horde or the Entire ATF from harming me and mine (just most of them), but I am able to provide food, shelter, fire, and protection. How someone can be unable to provide these things and call themself the head of the household is beyond me.
