13 minutes? It may be your connection. The site is working fine for me.

I've been out for a couple of hours, but it's ok now, at least from here.

I've noticed long lapses between posts today, as long as 45 minutes, but I attributed that to just not being particuularly busy. But the page loads themselves are as snappy as anywhere. I experience no lag at all--at least right now. These things can be intermitent, of course, and may reflect your travel path rather than the server that hosts this site.

Let me tell you how I diagnose when something is slow. I worked in the telecomm and IT field for years and started the first Frame relay sysem in my county. For awhile I ran the largest ISP in my area with 40,000 subscribers, so those are my 'bona fides' :-)

I start out with the assumption that it is not my own computer. In other words, re-booting is largely a waste of time. it MIGHT be, but frankly, if you have a modern computer, that is simply unlikely. You don't want to go messing with settings. If they worked before, they'll work again.

1) Check my own DSL router. a) Force the email to send and receive. b) Go to my home page. If neither works, it's me. Reboot the router. You can tell by the lights anyway, it's just that I'm downstairs and the router is upstairs and I connect via Wi-Fi. That just means I'm too lazy to throw the dog off and climb upstairs.

2) Go to my favorite LOCAL site in the same area. This doesn't mean the route is local; it still may take you to California and back, but you are trying to 'bracket' the problem. Does that work?

3) Go to a large site such as google.com. If google isn't working, something is seriously wrong.

4) Go to your favorite site, gunslot.com.

5) Go to http://www.networktools.com and type in www.gunslot.com. use 'ping' and 'trace' to see the pathway your computer takes to get to gunslot.

Frequently these tools can help you isolate a problem and tell where the back-up is. It seems to me that since some of us were having problems and some were not, there likely was a blockage of some sort in your path to gunslot.

Gunslot itself is not without problems. First of all, it's hosted by a provder in Texas. That provider has many servers and once in awhile the provider's pipe into the Internet may be congested. The gunslot server(s) also have issues, especially with the sql database. But given the evidence, I think this time the problem was between you and gunslot, but didn't really involve either one of you.
