CHEYENNE, WYOMING - A legislative committee has endorsed a bill requiring judges to warn people accused of misdemeanor domestic violence that pleading guilty would cost them their federal gun rights.
The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved the bill Monday morning. It would also classify misdemeanor domestic violence as a serious offense requiring defendants to have lawyers.

Republican Sen. Cale Case of Lander is the bill's main sponsor. He told the committee that the state needs to make sure citizens realize that they can lose their constitutional right to own guns as a result of misdemeanor convictions.

How can a State legislature produce a State statute that directs the Federal Government to do ANYTHING? I could understand that persons so convicted could lose gun ownership rights within that State, but State statutes do not trump Federal law.

Any attorneys with opinions??

So much..

For "democrats" being the big-anti gun folks. The idea that a minor charge is enough to disqualify you from gun ownership would theoretically make me legally unable to own a firearm, in spite of me being a law abiding citizen for a long stretch of my life.
