Yard Sale 98 Mauser

I stopped on my way home from grocery shopping, lots of food that could melt, defrost and spoil.
As I was leaving I walked past the seller's table and spied the butt of a rifle. He told me it was a German 8MM but the crest was ground off the top of the receiver and the letters on the side stamped into the metal were Polish. The barrel seemed too short and the stock had a heavy coat of varnish. It also had a very worn rubber recoil pad. I was in a hurry so only gave it a cursory once-over. Up side, all matching numbers. Down side, $200 firm. Oh well, being broke sux.

so it could be 'restored' but it kind of irked me that he kept insisting it was German and that it would sell for big bucks in a gun shop. If it had not been for the grinding of the crest I MAY have bought it, the guy even pretended he could not see grind marks, what a maroon. I have an 1891 Mauser, plenty of gun for me :<)
Damn spell checker wants to change Mauser to mouser, Gurrr

I have 4 Mausers

2 K98k and 2 CETME.

1935 J.P Sauer S/147/G code says Mod. 98 on the receiver. The second is a war produce k98k but the year and factory is unknown at this time as I had recently got it and so have not had time to tinker with it. Third is the CETME FR-7 with a very very low serial # 002xx and has the Mauser 1893 type cock on close bolt. Fourth is CETME FR-8 with a Mauser 98 cock on open bolt. Will be glad to add pictures to this post with permission.
