Yet another new guy
Just found this site recently but really like it. I've always enjoyed my 2nd Amendment rights but it has risen to a new level in the last six months with two new rifles and a shotgun thanks to some small business success (I'll enjoy it while it lasts). Last purchase was a Bushmaster AR-15 and now Christmas has become all about accessories. I now spend much of my time on the internet just looking at new products and recommendations (which is how I found these forums). Life is good with a high powered weapon at your disposal. |

Last trip to the firing range (we have a free rifle and pistol range close by in the national forest) included my son's new Ruger 10/22, the Mossberg 500 20 gauge (also have a 12 gauge Persuader at the store), a Remington 742 .30-06 (using Remington 150 gr soft pt..my tried and true deer rifle) and the Bushmaster AR-15 which was being fed Hornady 55 gr FMJ and even a few TAP rounds. All-in-all, I probably put about 140 rounds through the AR. I actually don't hunt much anymore but I spend a fair amount of time at the range. I'd rather haul fish out of the small streams than a deer out of a hollow these days.

Welcome to the site. What accessories do you already have for the AR?
kncald
You guys are hilarious. I'm sure I'll have all sorts of questions in the future. As for accessories, I don't have much yet. I can't make myself spend $500 plus for a top of the line scope (although I'm tempted from time to time) but I'm going to start acquiring a few things here and there. I just ordered a quad rail, a NC Star Mark III tactical scope and a Barska AR-15 combo wrench but they haven't delivered yet. I don't want to spend too much since I've found an AR-10 carbine that caught my eye a few weeks ago. I don't know if I'll be able to swing it with the holidays or if it will still be around when I'm ready but that is what I would like to get next.

I had a friend a few years a go who claimed to love heating up a piece of bologna for 15 sec in the microwave, spreading mayo on it, then using it as a jack off wrap. And he even had fixings for a sandwich afterwards.
Ebear
have you ever noticed the fucked up faces a Ferret makes when you jerk it off??
runawaygun762
but I did catch a soldier whipping himself with a belt while beating his dick, and I have jerked it in the Kuwaiti desert while watching myself with night vision goggles. No ferret stories, though.

Don't worry too much about "top of the line" stuff unless you're using the weapon as a home defense gun. If your primary objective for the AR is to turn lots of perfectly good ammo into hot brass and punch lots of little holes into paper bad guys, then the basic wal-mart level stuff like a BSA red dot scope and CAA brand rail equipment will do just fine. If it is to be used to protect yourself or your family, then spend the money on reliable gear such as an Aimpoint sight, rail or barrel mounted flashlight (I like Surefire, but Pentagon lights are great too), and good ammo. Hands down, the best home defense ammo in .223 is either 55 gr Hornady V-max or 55 gr Extreme Shock frangible. I prefer Hornady because of the availability.

I keep Hornady V-max and TAP in the clips by my nightstand, but my main home defense weapons are the Mossberg 500 12 & 20 gauge under the bed. I figure toss the wife one of the shotguns and she can hold them off while I bring the AR to bear. Like you said, the scope I got was to do some serious damage to various targets on the range. I was amazed how accurate it was even with the iron sights. I tore up a 12x16 inch piece of concrete backer board at 125 yards. Fun stuff.
