I know that you are a .308 man and I respect you for that. At the serious cost for ammo today, I am looking at an SKS in 7.62X39. It is for economy and anyone/anything within my 200 yard perimeter. Samco Global Arms has some really good condition Yugos, priced right, less than $300 delivered here. I have been doing some reading about the inherent problems of putting detachable mags on them. They say that a 10 round slipper clip goes in just as fast as loading a mag. I do have some minor arthritis in my hands and even loading the Glock is painful. What are your thoughts?
I want it for the range and home defense in that 200 yd zone. I will invest in a decent scope and maybe some nice furniture for it. I was looking at the Saigas, but prices are getting ridiculous.

i own 2 sks's,and have tryed various manufacturers magazines.they work just ok.i find that due to the design of the weapon(you have to hold the bolt open to insert a magazine since an sks dont have a bolt lock)it is far easier to use the original 10 round magazine and stripper clips.if you have arthritis issues then the stripper clips will be easier to use.if you want a bigger magazine then the zytel plastic ones from cheaperthandirt work the best.samco global is a good company to do business with!

I say go for it. I have a couple sks's myself and like them a lot. I have a yugo that I've never had a problem with. I can consistantly hit a torso sized target at 300 yds. with the iron sights. I came across an unissued yugo the other day and really wanted to pick it up, but they wanted $400 for it. I've never had any experience with the detachable mags. always kept mine origional. I put a ATI black ATI monte carlo stock on one but took it off and put the origional wood back on it because I like the battle rifle look. with your arthritis, I think the stripper clips would be easiest anyway. let us know how it goes!

xmas for him

just took my brothers sks and stripped it cleaned it, found the cleaning rod he needed for it and got a case for him and gave it back for his Xmas. But i hunted deer season with it first. 280yd (approx.) head shot (well. . . upper neck) on a doe with iron sights. his is Chinese made in the early 80's and you can buy them around here all day for 300 and change. i bought him a half case of wolf 7.62 (dirty i know) but its cheap plinking ammo. paid $5 a box. keep the 10 rd stock clip. just avoid M1 thumb (it happens)

RE: SKS

Thank you all for the input. That is what this sight is about. I feel better hearing from people that own them. Thanks again.

of a truly [almost] miraculous magazine reloading tool called the "Uplula". My wife has bad arthritic hands, and can reload her Glock mags with no pain, and very quickly, too. If you have not tried the Uplula, you owe yourself a belated Christmas present. And by the way, it will work from .380 to .45 mags., and is easily pocket carriable.

LLE, Thank you

I am going to invest in 1. It is these Double stack Hi Cap mags that get me. I have 15 rounders for the Glock. That spring makes this 6' 250 lb Bear grunt! Hell to get old.

I doubt my wife and I would have gotten through the Front Sight 4 day course, if each of us did not have an Uplula. There was only one big problem--everybody else wanted to borrow them!!
Them Israelis are ingenious.
