Your favorite/ dream gun that has been used by any branch of military in the USA or any allied forces.... "The end move in politics is always to pick up a gun."
"Americans have the will to resist because we have weapons. If you don't have a gun, freedom of speech has no power."

Well, every model of weapon we have ever used has been used for evil, but I'll stick with the subject. My choice would be The M198 155mm towed artillery gun. Whatever money is left over would go toward an even mix of HE, WP, SADARM, and DPICM rounds

and all them letters and numbers mean jack to me..i just want a thompson to shoot to my hearts content or till my eyes fall out
luckybychoice
Put me down for the 106 recoiless rifle with .50 cal spotter mounted on a mule with a shit load of ammo. Those were a blast to shoot, literally.
LLE
I would go with the 57mm recoilless rifle--better than any bazooka I ever fired.
By the way Luckybychoice--did you know that the 106 was actually a 105mm which fired different ammo than the original 105??
luckybychoice
LLE,The M40 106 replaced the M27 105,the M40 could shoot the M27 ammo but not Vice-a-versa.My hats off to you for shooting the 57 mm! i also shot the 3.5 bazooka and didn't care for it much. The Marines replaced the 3.5 with the 60mm mortar and gave us tons of ammo to shoot thru them.
I really liked the 106 because with that 50.cal you could see that WP puff as it hit ,correct, and Whamm!

ryo would like a bullpup semi automatic (of course) Lapua Magnum with all the accessories and ammo one would ever need. would also like to have a 155mm Paladin howitzer, since 100 million could buy both and have plenty left over!
Your friend,

Easy and I suppose I am showing my age but nothing tickled my giggle more than laying on a pile of rocks they called a berm and shooting a M1 Garand at 1,000 yard targets. Standing sitting or laying prone, offhand, slow fire or rapid fire it didn't make any difference. The M1 was my baby. Not saying the M14 was bad, If I had one I would love it and the M16 wasn't my cup of tea but I could ace the course with those silly pop up targets the army liked us to shoot at. For real live shooting back targets give me the M1, I like having to only shoot once. M2 is to heavy to lug around and impossible to shoulder for off hand shooting. M60 has this nasty habit of breaking when things get interesting. 1903 I could live with, Krag Jorgenson is fun to shoot but not in a serious situation. Always wanted to shoot a Tommy gun but I think they were afraid I wouldn't give it back. The BAR was fun to shoot but after half an hour or so it weighed just under 3 tons and it was never carried going downhill or on flat land. Nope, get me a M1 and get outta my way cause I'm going shooting.
baurthur
M14 would be mine. Decent caliber semi and full auto and accurate. If I couldnt get that Id take the m1 grand.

I would prefer to have supporting fire provided from a 155MM Howitzer Battery than anyone else. The accuracy is extremely good. And that sports fans is important. My second choice would be a Pershing Missle. But, not in a tactical support role. Definitely not.
fordvg
M40a1 and the M40a3 with a Barrett 107 and a rifle in 338 Lapua Mag with all the ammo for all the rifles to play with.

The M198 is a towed 155mm artillery gun, commonly called a howitzer. the acronyms are a few of my favorite types of munitions that can be fired with the gun. Here's a description of each:
High Explosive (HE) (M-107 NC/DC): Explosive Composition B material packed into a thick,internally-scored shell which causes a large blast and sends razor-sharp fragments at extreme velocities (5,000–6,000 meters per second). The kill zone is approximately a radius of 50 meters and casualty radius is 100 meters.
White Phosphorus (WP): A base-ejecting projectile which can come in two versions: felt-wedge and standard. White phosphorus smoke is used to start fires, burn a target, or to create smoke which is useful in concealing the movements of friendly units. When life sucks, call for Willie Pete and make it suck more for the other guys.
DPICM: Dual-Purpose Improved Conventional Munition. A base-ejecting projectile which drops 88 bomblets above a target. Each bomblet has a shaped-charge munition capable of penetrating two inches of solid steel as well as a fragmentation casing which is effective against infantry in the open. The DPICM round is effective against armored vehicles, even tanks, and is also extremely useful against entrenched infantry in positions with overhead cover
SADARM: An experimental munition which is fired in the general direction of an enemy vehicle. The shell activates at a certain point in time ejecting a parachute and then guides itself to the nearest vehicle

I'm with GRUMP. I was handed an M1 Garand at Parris Island and I loved it. I was deadly out to 500 yards and credible out to 1000 yards. It was beautifully balanced and a dream to shoot. Nothing after, even the M14, ever came close to delivering the long range capability of the M1.
