The FN MAG was developed in the 1950s and has been produced since 1958, and the machine gun has become a widely adopted 7.62 mm NATO-firing machine gun. Presently the weapon is used by more than 20 countries. MAG is an acronym standing for Mitrailleuse d'Appui General, which translates to English as 'general purpose machine gun' (GPMG).
