The SPAS-15 is a 12 gauge, dual-mode shotgun designed and manufactured by the Franchi S.p.A. company of Italy.
The weapon is closely based on the SPAS-12, and has similar semi automatic / pump action firing modes. In semi-automatic mode on the shotgun a gas piston drives a rotating bolt and bolt carrier. In pump-action mode on the shotgun the same components of the weapon are driven by sliding the fore-end backwards. To maximize the use of this weapon, pump-action mode is mandatory to reliably fire low-pressure ammunition including but not limited to bean bags and the more lethal tear gas. Pressing a button above the foregrip and sliding the foregrip slightly backwards or forwards, enables the weapon to be switched between firing modes.
Unlike its predecessor, the SPAS-12, the SPAS-15 has a feeding system based on an external box magazine. The shotgun features a pistol grip safety and folding stock.
