The SIG Sauer SSG 3000, jointly developed and produced by SIG Arms (Switzerland) and JP Sauer und Sohn (Germany), is a giant leap in sniper rifle technology. It incorporates new technologies as well as improves on existing time tested and proven ones. The German words, SSG Sharf Schutzen Geweher meaning Sharp Shooter's Rifle, have been for decades come to symbolize high performance and quality. Based on the Sauer 2000TR target rifle, the SSG 3000 is an extremely well crafted rifle, which excels in power, precision and easy handling. Primarily a Police and Special Task force sniper rifle, the SSG 3000 is extremely popular in Europe and now in the US. Sharp Shooters and enthusiasts consider it extremely accurate (within .5 MOA) and able to adjust to any situation.
Modular in design, the SSG 3000 can be easily disassembled for servicing, carrying or making configuration changes using adaptors. The barrel / receiver group as well as the trigger / magazine group are easily removable making it highly flexible. Offered in 7.62 x 51 mm NATO (.308 Win) the rifle weighs 5.4 kgs w/o scope and has an overall length of 46.46 inches with 24 inches being its barrel length. The SSG 3000 is a bolt action, magazine fed rifle, the bolt of which has a standard plunger-style ejector, and six interrupted forward locking lugs and locks directly onto the barrel. It also comes with a silent, high precision bolt guide for situations which require absolute silence before the shot is fired. The semi-heavy, cold-hammer forged barrel comes with a built in muzzle brake and flash suppressor. The low recoil and muzzle brake serve to keep the sniper on target in case he needs to fire follow up shots rapidly. The flash suppressor and muzzle brake, which is blocked at the bottom, also ensures that no dust signature can be detected. The original stock is made from laminated wood, which is ventilated, and can be custom fitted using adjustable cheek pads. The adjustable nature of the rifle makes for an easy switch to a fiber glass stock and barrel exchange using a screw clamp connection. The trigger unit, with the pistol grip using the spacer system, comes in single or two stage configurations and is fully adjustable for length and weight of pull.
The SSG 3000 has no iron sights and comes with an integrated rail slot for scope mounting. The standard rifle comes with a Hendsdolt 1.5-6 x 42 mm scope but STANAG compliant sight bases are also available as an option. In fact the rings are so standard that any scope can be mounted. Equally adaptable is the accessories rail at the bottom fore end of the rifle which can be used for sling mounts as well as bipods of many kinds. The standard SSG 3000 comes with 5 round magazines.
