The Smith and Wesson Model 629 is a new stainless steel version of the S&W Model 29 double action, six shot revolver, chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge.
The Smith and Wesson 629 model designation is derived from Smith and Wesson's practice of denoting a stainless steel variant of one of their already existing designs by placing a 6 in front of the model number of the original weapon hence the number 629.
