Glock 21C Shooter Posted: July 1, 2007
The designation as the SSG 609 is do to the fact that the rifle was adopted in 1969. The rifle was a revolution and ahead of its time in the use of cold hammer forged barrels and synthetics for accuracy.
The Steyr 69 has several variants, however most have cosmetic differences. The essential only anomaly of the sniper rifle is in the SSG-PIV which utilizes the 409 mm barrel and has a 1-10 twist designed and manufactured to handle the somewhat heavier subsonic ammunition.
Adopted in 1969 (hence the designation), it was ahead of its time with the use of synthetics and cold-hammer forged barrels for accuracy.
