Established in 1816, Remington is the oldest gun manufacturer in the country. Its founder, Eliphalet Remington, started out by building a personal gun as he knew he could built something better than what’s being sold. The performance of his gun during a shooting competition gained the interest of everyone, even other shooters in the competition. At the same time, he also built typewriters but the business only lasted until 1886.
The company was bought and sold by various corporations notably; Marcus Hartley and Partners in 1888, DuPont during the Great Depression, Clayton, Dubiller and Rice in 1993 an lately, Cerebrus Capital Management in 2007. By the time the company was sold in 2007, it was under huge financial crisis because of their inability to post any profit for three years since 2002.

The Remington 51 is commonly called as the pocket pistol. During its production, the Americans were a little bit cold in accepting this type of handgun. However, Remington 51 became a popular type of handgun in different European countries but it didn’t really have a considerable support because of its size.
This type of firearm didn’t gain as much success at the start but it became a popular pocket gun once it became the basis for different handguns. Popular handguns such as the Remington 53 and M1911 handguns used the simplistic design of Remington 51.
