Established in 1816, Remington is the oldest gun manufacturer in the country. Its founder, Eliphalet Remington, started out by building a personal gun as he knew he could built something better than what’s being sold. The performance of his gun during a shooting competition gained the interest of everyone, even other shooters in the competition. At the same time, he also built typewriters but the business only lasted until 1886.

The company was bought and sold by various corporations notably; Marcus Hartley and Partners in 1888, DuPont during the Great Depression, Clayton, Dubiller and Rice in 1993 an lately, Cerebrus Capital Management in 2007. By the time the company was sold in 2007, it was under huge financial crisis because of their inability to post any profit for three years since 2002.

Popular Remington Firearms

Remington 700

A product of Remington since 1962, Remington 700 is a centerfire bolt rifle developed for civilian and military purposes. Aside from common bolt action characteristic, it also has internal magazine ranging from three to five rounds. When it comes to cartridges, Remington 700 has one of the most varieties when it comes to rifles.

The civilian version of Remington 700 usually comes with a heavy barrel but newer versions of Remington 700 are way lighter compared to its original counterpart. The military use of Remington 700 (also called 700P) has complete accessories such as rifle scopes. This is often used by snipers as it could be used right out of the box with little to no configuration.

Remington 870

Created in 1950, this pump action shotgun is a product of careful development that could be traced back to the years when John Browning was still developing shotguns. It is reputed as one of the most successful shotguns in history. Its simplistic and practical design has made the shotgun very popular for civilians and the military. The Remington 870 is also interchangeable to other rifles particularly to the 7600 rifles Remington 1100 semi-automatics. Depending on the size and variety, the Remington 870 could load to a maximum of eight with four the least number of rounds in its tube.

Remington 51

A vintage pistol, the Remington 51 is small handgun developed from 1918 to 1927 and during the 30s. It was believed that only 65,000 of these handguns were made and they are currently a collector’s item because of its manufacturing date. The development of this type of handgun was greatly influenced by John Browning.

The Remington 51 is commonly called as the pocket pistol. During its production, the Americans were a little bit cold in accepting this type of handgun. However, Remington 51 became a popular type of handgun in different European countries but it didn’t really have a considerable support because of its size.

This type of firearm didn’t gain as much success at the start but it became a popular pocket gun once it became the basis for different handguns. Popular handguns such as the Remington 53 and M1911 handguns used the simplistic design of Remington 51.
