The Remington Model 700 series of firearms are hunting rifles produced and manufactured by Remington Arms.
Remington 700

Remington has manufactured and produced the rifle since 1962. All are based on the same receiver; they a 3, 4 or 5-round internal magazine, use centerfire bolt action, and can be equipped with third-party rifle stocks and telescopic sights. Some variants of the Remington 700 can mount slings, bipods, and other accessories. Some Remington Model 700 rifles for faster reloading are made with detachable magazines.

Both the United States Army's M24 Sniper Weapon System and the United States Marine Corps' M40 sniper rifles are constructed from the Remington 700 rifle, in various different degrees of modification. Closely to 90% of the police sharpshooter rifles within the United States, as well as in a number of foreign countries outside of the United States, are modeled after Remington 700s, specifically the Remington 700PSS model (now referred to as the 700P) according to Remington Firearms company information.

Remington also markets the 700 to law enforcement agencies and Military forces under the Remington Military banner and Remington Military Law Enforcement, with the law/military enforcement 700s being called the Model 700P ("Police"). The Remington 700P series appears to have been influenced by the features, designs, and success of the M40 series and the M24 SWS, with one unique feature of the Model 700P series of rifles being the thicker and heavier barrel standard with the Remington Model 700P rifles (a feature copied from the M24, M40, and the various Remington 700 rifles used by police snipers and sharpshooters throughout the world before the Model 700P came into existence). There are two primary models of the 700P — the standard 700P and the slightly more advanced 700P Light Tactical Rifle (LTR). Both Remingtons also come with a significant Tactical Weapons System (TWS) package, complete with bipods, telescopic sights and carrying cases.

The Police versions of the Remington 700 are extremely popular with civilian hunters and shooters who like the "government issue" appearance as well as the accuracy and handling. Remington also markets the 700 to law-enforcement agencies, military forces, and civilian rifle hunters and shooters. Remington also sells the standard, United States Army-issue Leupold Mark IV M3 10 x 40 mm telescopic sight utilized by the Army's M24 as a primary optional feature.

I have a Remington 700, in the 300 WinMag caliber. Nice gun, shoots tight groups.

I had to have a good muzzle put on it to manage the recoil. and have a trigger job done. And it is a little heavy to be hiking around for fun and hunting. But it does get the job done.

I use to own one in 308 and it was a shooter. Great gun and very accurate. Best 3 shot group at 100 yds. was .057 of an inch and I shoot a 3 shot group at 200 yds. that was .377 of an inch. Plan on buying another one when I get some money.

Do they make a 5 round model for the .30-06? I liked the look of the 700P
also the 700SPS ( Synthetic Polymer Stock )as well.

What is a good low light scope to get for the buget minded deer hunter?

Good. Bad. I'm just the guy with the gun.
