The AK-47 (Kalashnikov's assault rifle, model of the year 1947, in English Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947) is an assault rifle operated by gas that was frequently used by numerous Eastern bloc nations during and throughout the Cold War.
AK-47

Standardized and adopted in 1947, the AK-47 was originally produced by Russian manufacturer Izhevsk Mechanical Works and designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. Improving upon the auto-loading rifles frequently used in World War II (the StG-44 aside), the dominant AK-47 was generally more compact, with a smaller 7.62x 39 mm cartridge, a shorter range, and was capable of selective fire. The AK-47 remains one of the most widely used and known assault rifles and is frequently credited as one of the first true assault rifles. More AK-47 assault rifles have been manufactured and produced than any other assault rifle. Production of the AK-47 assault rifle continues to this day.

In the real world all you have to do is watch news footage from any civil war, revelotion, etc AK is THE MOST COMMON BATTLE. Why Ease of use, durability, cheap, SO LITTLE RECOIL THAT YOU CAN SEE LITTLE KIDS FIRING THEM!! GET SERIOUS!

POPULAR IN THE U.S. BECAUSE IT IS EASY TO CONVERT THEM TO SELECT FIRE, AND AS SURPLUS THEY ARE CHEAP.

obviously you have either never fired an ak47 or you weigh in at about 35lbs. An average sized person is able to empty a 30 round clip on semi without any problem with recoil and on full auto the only problem is muzzle rise, and when held properly and fired in controlled burst this problem is negligable

Hate the 5.56...trust me in saying if your one of those who sucks bad enough that they need 4 shots to take a person down and keep them down then maybe you should spend more time worrying about your skill not your caliber.

im not a bad shot or a great shot, its the lead that hits the target. yes one shot will kill the person but not vary fast because it is such a small holl it puts in the target the target still has time to fire back. i watch a show on the TV that had a AK vs M16 the shot at a block of pine the 7.62x39 went right in and out with force to kill a man, when the 5.56x45 when up it bounced off the wood that is pretty sad to me. if the target is waring body armor it will not even penetrat.

We dont get Dragonskin because we got MTV's (our current "new" flaks) before the Dragonskin was done with testing, I dont even think they had a prototype ready yet. Now while I do value my life at quite a high price I can not honestly expect the military to completely shitcan there new investment of MTV's. Which are a better protected flak jacket the ones we used when I did my first deployment. Now im not saying I wouldnt want the dragonskin, but I do see why we dont have it.

I had a polytech AKS with a fixed spike bay(blood grove). It was really fun to own. Norinco's are cool. I like the Polytech. I hardly see them at the gun shows now. I sold it for 950.00. What yall think is the best quality made AK now?

I love AK's and I want to have a collection of them. On the barrel rise you could get a UTG forearm uppers and lowers kit. It's anodized aluminum. It's heavier than stock or polymers. After playing with the feel of polymers I wanted something heavier. It makes the gun really heavy though but definitely helps with barrel rise. Not to mention since you gain four pictanny rails you can put a vertical foregrip to help with not only barrel rise but with the weight as well. Also with a red dot sight, though I wish I had a holographic sight, you can sight your AK for decent distance shots. I'm not claiming accuarcy over 5.56 but for normal ranges it is comparable. Not to mention it is badass shooting a 4x4 block of wood completely in half.

most of the kits are either no longer available or really expensive.for those of you not in the know,a parts kit is everything on an ak with the receiver cut in half or cut with a torch.anyone know where to find parts kits that are at least under $250 dollars?i have tried to find em' on the net but they are scarce,we ak builders are being told that it is because all the guns and parts that are available on the market are being sent to iraq to rebuild and equip iraqi soldiers.any insite to this sytasyn syn?

Like I said to you in the Private message, I know WE are not using them. However they may be used by the Iraqi Police or the Iraqi Army or Iraqi Highway Patrol. I have not been in Habbaneya for about a month now and I would not be able to tell you if this is true. I have not heard anything about it when I was there however I will try to find out if there is truth to this leeching from the Iraqi LE agencies.

Dragon skin should be implemented to our troops its a fact. i wish that the government would see that. now don't get me wrong i love the U.S.A. but somethings just need to be done dragonskin needs to be there for us. now saying that i like the Ak-47 but it is slow and in accrute. the bullet travels slow compaired to the 5.56 round. it is the #1 fire arm in the world because the solivet union needed money to fund its country. i believe that the troops need a new weapon a break from the m16 or m4 if you will. ak-47 is not the answer though. buying them only fuels the world demand for a assualt rifle that is out dated. i think the ak 47 needs a make over and the ak-74 does not cut it. after saying that i have shot both m16 and ak-47 i enjoy them both.

more accurate??? think things through before you say them. we need the ak like i need an asshole on my elbow. Dont get me wrong, I own one and love shooting the weapon, but the technology is over half a century old, and there are a lot of better rounds out there. We need the scar or a nice rifle in 6.5mm Grendel or even Remington 6.8mm

the 7.62 would fuck you up much more but that sive bullet would nto travel at 1500 fps over 300 meters the marines in iraq have to do like90 percent more head shots because theay would wast more ammo trying to kill some one because theay are on drugs i have seen a lot of this i have done tests with the m4 and m16 m249 and ak and any one who has got shot with the m16 is prolly not alive to tell abouat it the bullet is skiney and soft it breaks apart like a grenade when it hits your body so much stress on the round it has a thing called hop effect shot in the stomich it would come out the back of your chest so it has a pritty good kill rate but the military wants to up size from 556 to 762 what i think would be good due to the 556 round not being able to go through concreat walls in irac it is onley a 35 cal rifle 223 it would be nice to get a m4a1 with the power of a desert eagle but the same waight style of a m4 i love the m4 i think the m16 and m4 is made well i have not herd of any thing bending on a m16 or stressing out and onley one maker colt the ak has few diffrent type chineese ones and the barrel bends when u shoot cheep

first, forget what i said yesterday... this is now the longest sentence I've ever seen.
second, if you shoot someone in the stomach with a 5.56, it will not come back out of their chest. there will most likely be an exit wound in the back. and the bullet isn't made to fragment ro "break up" but it tumbles end over end.
third, our military would NEVER go from the 5.56 to the 7.62x39. if they would change the standard issue caliber it would most likely be 6.5 grendel, or 6.8 spc.

The tumbling effect was from the barrel twist not fast enough in the 60's m-16a1, ironically it was designed to do that, and there were documented cases where a shot would enter the chest and exit at an angle up and out the shoulder. The govterment thought this to be inhumane so they made it slightly less lethal, it no longer tumbles. I believe that you'll see the 6.8spc for the round of choice, could you imagine the fun it would be to fire a "saw" calibered to 6.8, yes sign me up for that one!
