HS Produkt (formerly I.M. Metal) manufactures these weapons in the city of Ozalj, Croatia and then licenses and sells the weapons in the US by Springfield Armory.
Springfield Armory XD .45 GAP Pistol

The Springfield Armory XD (X-Treme Duty) series of pistols are magazine fed, striker-fired, polymer-framed, semi-automatic handguns. Each premium handgun features an Ultra Safety Assurance (USA)Trigger System, double-stack high-capacity magazines, a 1911-style grip safety, a loaded chamber indicator, ambidextrous magazine release buttons, striker status indicator, and accessory rail.

Springfield Armory exclusively offers the XD to the US market in five different calibers: 9x19 mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .45 GAP, and .45 ACP. Additionally, five primary models are available including a Compact version with a 4" barrel, a Sub-Compact model with a 3" barrel, a Tactical model with a 5" barrel, a Service model with a 4" barrel and a Ported V-10 model with a 4" barrel and upward-facing custom ports on the XD's slide to reduce muzzle rise and soften recoil. All five models in the XD line of weapons are available in one of four quality finishes: Black, Bi-Tone, OD Green, US Mil-Spec Flat Dark Earth (tan) and Black.

I speak from first hand experience. I have owned an XD40 since Feb. and have ran several hundred rounds through it without one failure. I used it for my re-qualification for CCW, and our SRT bi-annual re-certification. I carry it on a daily basis and would bet my life on it hands down. I just purchased a XDm. Just when i thought you couldn't do better than perfect, Springfield proved me wrong......
Right out of the box both of them are more accurate, have a better grip feel, and are more comfortable to shoot than any pistol i have ever came in contact with. Functionality and ease of stripping combined with absolute performance make this one deadly weapon to carry.

i bought an XD-40 a few months ago and it has swiftly moved in to my number one pistol position. right out of the box it shot smoothly and with a high level of accuracy. i would LOVE to get my hands on one of those XDMs. a guy had one at the range the other day and it was sick.

I have shot almost all of the competitive composite semiautos, in both 9mm and 40S&W, and I must say the XD ranks with the best, regardless of price. My appraisal of this weapon is that it is not just excellent--it is superb. Ergonomics, balance, trigger, mag capacities, inherent accuracy, inherent safety, reliability after several thousand rounds, and concealability all are top notch, and the recoil does not exceed similar size 9mm's. The only reson I graded it 9.5, instead of 10 was to be a hard ass about the OEM sights. It's not that they are bad--only that they do not seem to match the overall quality level of the weapon they are mounted on.
One last comment: I installed a Crimson Trace laser, as soon as they were available. I was concerned that it might interfere with the great feel of the grip, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the grip actually felt BETTER with the Crimson Trace installed.
Although I have not handled a new XDm, I cannot imagine it being better than the XD.........Springfield Rocks, and so does Croatia!!

briefly describe what you believe to be better about the XDm. I am not being argumentative--only very curious about your informed opinion. I probably will not be able to handle one for some time, unless I happen to bump into some lucky new owner, at our little local range.

.40 is a little more than 9mm, and a little less than .45acp. you can get a 100 rds of winchester white box at walmart for about $25

If you have small hands, i would recommend the Taurus 24/7. if your hands are large or XL do your self a favor and go with the XD. i have two XD's and owned the 24/7 in .45acp i am 6'3" with a large hand. when i shot the 24/7 my thumb would release the mag every time. this is why i sold the 24/7 to a friend who had small hands, he dose not have the same problem.

I had a 24/7 in 40S&W. I was not surprised that the form and function were very good. My wife's PT111 Millenium Pro has always been very good. The 24/7 is an upgraded PT111, and a very good one at that. It was accurate and reliable, BUT it did not fit in my hands like the XD does. My hand size requires, as an example, a Medium cadet golf glove, if that is any help.

For small hands I would go with the S&W M340...less the 6 1/2in
However, I am 6'3" as well and my hand are no where near small. I can't even fit two fingers on the 340.

depending upon that specific pistols features and condition, $500 may or may Not be a good price There are many different models of the basic Taurus 1911 so as to be confusing. but if you keep looking, you might find one NIB for very little more money
Check out Gunbroker.com. There are a number of them there, with no reserves. Also check Gunsamerica.com.

you would need to buy a new xdm frame, the barrel, and the short reset trigger system... which is basically a whole new gun.
the better barrel and short reset trigger are the main functional differences, but you can change the size of the grips for your tiny little hands and some xdm's offer manual safeties.

I'm new here first comment. I have XD- ported 9mm. It shoots great. This is my concealed carry weapon, I feel comfortable with it I like having more firepower on my side.

i'm sure it has to do with the capacity. they are a little crazy on the laws for high cap mags. still i would check with a local dealer just to make sure.

thats why i love the great state of Missouri. if i had a 1000 round mag for my XDm, it would still be legal. heavy as hell, but i wouldn't be in trouble for it. hopefully it will stay that way.

I am looking to replace both my .45's that I carry for my local S.W.A.T. team. I currently have a EAA witness that has served me well over the past 7 years. How ever it does not have a light rail. The other is a Baby Eagle that is picky on ammo and likes to jam in protest to certain types of ammunition. The reason I bought the Baby Eagle was that the magazines are interchangable between the 2 guns. I am looking at the XD in .45 due to my current needs. I am also considering the Smith & Wesson M&P in .45. But the latter is in DA only and I am not a big fan of that. I prefer my DA/SA. So far the XD seems to fit what I am looking for. Its that or I come up with alot more money and get the H&K MK23. Due my budget I think the XD is my best bet. That or get the polymer verson of the EAA Witness. Problem there is finding a Blackhawk SERPA holster for them. If any one on here has any other suggestion's on a good fire arm to carry that is close to the XD let me know please.
