The Thompson submachine gun was of a family of guns that achieved enormous popularity throughout the Prohibition era in the United States.

The Thompson submachine gun was a very common gun during its time. The automatic gun dominated the use of both criminals and law enforcement individuals. The Thompson submachine gun was also referred to as the Chopper, Tommy Gun, Chicago Piano and Chicago Typewriter. The gun was the favorite of civilians and soldiers for its large .45 ACP bullet, compact siz and extremely high volume of automatic fire.

These civilian weapons command a premium price. The more collectable, in my humble opinion, are the WWII, Korean conflict and, yes, even the Viet Nam experience combat weapons. These include the M1928, M1 and M1A1. Each successive version became simpler to manufacture, hence less costly. The changes were in response to the high prices for these prized weapons compared to stamped sheet metal-based submachine guns of other nations. Notwithstanding the M3 "grease gun," which, to my amazement, now commands equal prices to the WW II era "Tommy Guns," it is a wonderful weapon to shoot.

these things have definite eye appeal but for anyone that has never handled one go out in your yard and pick up a 8 inch concrete block (like the ones they put under mobile homes)and pack it around oh yeah nice and comfy so yeah their cool but not at all easy to carry or fire
