Hey, Hi everybody
Just new in the blog...
Any recommendations for the Glock 17 Gen 4...will be welcome...
Ishootdaily
I'd go with the Gen 3 my self.
I think they should have stopped messing with its overall design with the ergo grip. Though interchangeable back straps are nice if the mood hit them.

As for Glock 17 its quite popular with lots of law enforcement all over the world. And its also a 9 Iron (9x19mm). I wont lie to ya but I am not a big fan of Glock but dont let me discourage ya from them. I am sure a few members have a G17 and can offer better insight on it.
Once again welcome to Gunslot.

as we all know, they can be caused form quite a few things that don't necessarily have to do with the firearm, but instead the user or ammo.
I have only shot a couple of gen 4's. If I were buying, I would stay with gen 3 because I prefer the ergonomics, but the 4's that I shot didn't experience any problems.

Lots of people that are still learning the correct mechanics and others that will never get it because they just know better.
But, the ones I've seen have issues are owned and operated by LEO and avid comp shooters. You can change out the recoil spring to a single and take care of the problems if they arise with yours.
I'd still go with the Gen 3 for my own personal preferences. The ergonomics of the grip has made it a more comfortable pistol for me to shoot with my short fingers. The boxy grip of Gen 1 - 2 tended to not fit right for me mostly because the corner on my strong hand side of the grip tended to hit dead center between the top and second knuckle on my fingers. Which caused me to turn my hand so it would hit at the second joint. I can do it and shoot fine like that, but it does mess with the comfort for me enough that it turns me off. Third Gen fixed that for me and now after shooting a few rounds on a couple of different courses I'm learning to like Glock more.
They are not tack drivers out of the box, but then again it's a duty weapon and finding one that is dead nuts accurate out of the box is not a common thing. Besides in a defensive situation who is using sights unless the person is 25 yards and beyond?
Considering really hard on picking up a 23 and buying the 9 and 357 conversion barrels for it with the extra 9 mm mags it would need. Then I would have three calibers in one which is always a good thing when your not wanting to buy three different firearms.

avid competition shooters...
For the most part Police these days shoot like crap and do not even use the 50 rounds a month alloted to them for practicing unless it is a Department Requirement and few require it.
I'll take some pictures of the walls and baffles in the ceiling on the range and show you what they do shoot like.
We had one shoot the Coke machine and swears that it was a slam fire, it was his Duty Issue Glock 22... To this day when he is around and someone brings up trying to slam fire a Glock he turns red and walks away.

use to use it LONG ago went back years later and the range was full of holes the plywood in front of the lights the booth you shot out of and the teen sale's people were playing with the mp5 I was there to see. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeee

We keep a watch on civilian shooters and ensure that safety comes before anything. You start putting rounds into the clamp, walls or ceiling it's a warning once and then the door for the day on the second one.
The Police however own the range and because the Union owns it and the Kadets and Quals and Re-Quals are done closed doors it can be shocking to see just how bad the majority do shoot.
Like I said, I'll have to take some pictures...
One place I would avoid at all costs would be Knights. Too many people have come close to being shot buy fools there. Some of the fools actually work there.
You get a chance you should check out this range.

Very Funny....
Just don't buy ammo at Walmart...and for sure at the dollar store...jejeje

I mostly buy the Federal FMJ 9, 40 and 45 at a little +/- the cost of purchasing on line and shipping.
People do slip up at times, everyone pulls a boner at some time. Break your wrist while pressing that semi-auto trigger and let enough of the inertia bleed off and you are most likely going to have a malfunction.
There are a number of things that can cause problems, but, when it happens on a regular basis with a specific weapon I lean towards it being something to do with the weapon.
I like Federal because it is consistant, accurate and less than $10.00 a box of 50.
Winchester is dirty.
Remington UMC is one I also like as they tend to put out a little hotter round and at $23.00 for 100, 9 mm pellets to pop paper with it is cheaper than running HST's or other higher cost defense ammo into Paper.
RWS, Tula, Wolf and others unless the box is marked Range Safe, is going to be a Steel Jacket which on an Indoor range is a huge No No as it will tear up the back stop and possibly come back and hit someone with enough force to do some injury.
NATO marked Winchester isn't consistant and some of it is actually hotter than most pistol chambers are rated for which can cause problems. The seriously hot NATO ammo coming out of the 3.5 inch barrel of my CZ p-01 sounds like I am shooting .357 Sig out of it.
Walmart Ammunition isn't any problem and it isn't over priced either...
