Standard magazine capacity in the Glock 19 is 15 rounds of 9 x 19 mm ammunition. Development of the Glock 19 first began in 1988. In the year 1990, it entered service beginning in the Swedish Army as the named Pistol 88B (Pistol 88 is the naming designation for the Glock 17).
Since its inception, the Glock 19 has undergone 2 major transformations and current models are consistently referred to as the 3rd generation Glock 19s. Starting in 1999, the conventional grip on the Glock 19 has utilized "integrated finger grooves". This distinctive characteristic makes it very easy to distinguish more recently produced versions of this firearm. An accessory rail on the frame of the Glock 19, just forward of the trigger guard, was placed on the pistol at this time as well. The handy rail allows for the efficient and quick installation of a variety of tactical accessories, such as laser aiming systems and lights.
The New York Police Department and Israel's Shabek are two notable forces that use a modified Glock 19 as its standard issue service pistol. The NYPD has 12 point NYD connectors in its pistols; and the Shabek, uses the Glock 19C which features an extended slide stop, meprolight night sights, an extened magazine release and a 3.5 pound trigger.
The unique difference between the Glock 19 and the Glock 19C (Compensated) is that on the Glock 19C, the barrel and slide are ported, which greatly reduces climb while shooting the pistol.
The Glock 19 is widely used in law enforcement and is also an extremely popular carry and self defense pistol. The Glock 19 is often used by most agencies that use the Glock 17 to allow for those that wish to conceal and carry or have smaller hands. The Glock 19 has a grip and slide that are 12mm (0.5in) shorter than the Glock 17, ultimately enabling the gun to be easier to conceal, while still retaining performance and its service dimensions. Magazines for the slightly larger Glock 17 can be used with the Glock 19, but will slightly protrude.
All Glock pistols including, the Glock 19 have three safeties.
Glock pistols have been consistently stated to function flawlessly underwater however the Glock 19 is not designed to do so. Firing the Glock 19 underwater may result in lasting injury to the shooter and the destruction of the firearm. While the larger Glock 17 can be fitted with maritime spring cups to enable underwater shooting and while the Glock 19 can also be fitted with the same maritime spring cups, Glock insists taht only the Glock 17 was intended and designed to use the maritime spring cups.

I have owned two Glock 19s...I like it and while there may be better 9mm handguns, I like the comfort level while shooting this weapon. It seems to fit smaller hands versus the larger 9mm.

too bad they didn't put a thumb safety on it,for us 1911 fans.
I own one and pack it everywhere.

If any body is interested in a thumb safety on a striker fired pistol, check out the new XD series military version or should i say mil spec. It is a 45ACP and it also has a grip safety. The thumb safety is ambidetrous so you 1911 fans might give this a consider. It is a duty sized pistol with a 4"bbl and a 13 round magazine capacity plus one in the pipe. The XD's are tough as they come. Some consider to be tougher than the ol glocks. I personally have owned and fired 1000's of rounds through the XD's. I 've owned the subcompact, the duty 4'' and the 5'' tactical all in 9mm. This has to be one of the most reliable pistols that i have ever owned. they just freakin shoot. And they are quick out of the holster. The ambi mag release is easy to operate. and the mags insert with ease and speed during fast reloads do to the beveled mag well. If any body has any questions on the XD's give me a shout or go to springfieldarmory.com click on the XD's.
