7 bullets in a barrel

7 bullets in a barrel

I fired all seven bullets. New scope, not zeroed in, and a new subsonic load, so the direct impingement was a little off. I sent the barrel back to the manufacturer and he called me an amateur. He said I could have easily put 2 maybe 3 more bullets before the gas block was obstructed.

Thanks to Greasy for trying to help me get the bullets out.

JD said he has seen this before. He makes his barrels very well. He has done it himself.

I will buy from him again. Good old American made weapons!!!

hamp's train wreck

I think it was a squib load. I was trying a new load. Subsonic ammo acts differently than supersonic. There is way less felt recoil. The rifle is based on an AR platform so you still have the twang from the spring operating. I also had new optics, so i was thought I was not hitting the target because the scope was not bore sighted yet. I just wanted to send rounds down range. Good lesson, check barrel after shooting new loads.

A squib load and a subsonic can feel the same. I was unaware of that before.

Did you mill the barrel, so that it could be seen?
Good thing that you didn't insert a good round in it!

Sam, I had JD mill the barrel for me so I could share my experience with others. The rounds after the first "squib" were to the best of my judgment, "real" rounds. It would be impossible to tell.

Reaper, yes...300. I re sized all of the .221 fireball to .300 and loaded a "quieter" round...well, kind of...

I was in a state that recognizes individual freedoms, so yes, I employed a can. You can make out the threads in the picture. I think the "reinforcement" of the can helped to keep the barrel together.

You must be Irish! That or you run around with a Leprechaun in your pocket.. lol

Wondering if you have a Suppressor on it at the time?

Just noticed you mentioned a can previously...

Sub's with a Can should be fine, unless you have a piston and have it turned to nothing firing single shot... :)) I could see that throwing a wrench into things.

canned for enjoyment

I was in a state allowed suppressed firing, so there was a can involved. I think it helped with the structure, but like I mentioned earlier, JD Jones has seen this many times before...I figured a shooter like yourself could learn from this.

Definitely something to know about.

When we go down to Area 51 we're shooting Full Auto mostly so we do not use Sub Sonic. Though Felix every now and then will play with some of the stuff from Engel Ballistic Research. Website http://www.ebr-inc.net/

Other than that only shooting sub-sonic 9.mm and .22 with can's.

Stay away from Remington Frangible btw, bullet head snaps off or crunches on the feed ramp much of the time....

That is one of the only reasons I like it here....

I was born on the east coast of Florida and would love to live back in Maine or somewhere else thats for sure...

But, we can pretty much own anything here and shoot it...

Oh and year round shooting too, thats another thing thats nice.... Politics down here suck ass though.

I see the problem here. You were using tree-huggin' "green" bullets. They ain't got enough weight to make it down the barrel. o_o
