OMG!!!!!! This gave me goosebumps!!!! I noticed the goosebumps as I was picking my jaw up off the floor!!!! This is just plain scary..... Hey don't give up because I ran across this shot. 50 years of shootin' I'VE never seen anything like this before aye!! I too wonder what happened though I could probably figure it out. But what a pic aye. and I don't see any finger parts thankfully for this guy.

Bulge in the slide looks consistent with a failure due to ammo and/or early unlock.

As for the damage on the magwell and elsewhere....trying to pry open a kaboomed plastic gun to clear it and start figuring out where things went badly can cause all kinds of damage. Could be from a vise or handtools. I've had patrol rifles on my desk with grass and twigs and shit in/on them from 'experts' trying to clear the gun without proper tools or training (rifle was incorrectly reassembled and fired; that person no longer works here).

I'd be most interested in learning the gun in the pic was fed FN factory ammo, another brand, or handloads.
