After 95 years Remington is back in the 1911 business. The New 1911 R1

After 95 years Remington is back in the 1911 business. The New 1911 R1

The new Remington 1911 R1 pistol is a variant of the 1911A1 design. Remington has added a flared and lowered ejection port, beveled magazine well, loaded chamber indicator, high profile dovetailed single-dot front and two-dot rear sights, a crisp 3.5-5 lbs trigger and a match grade stainless steel barrel with barrel bushing.

The pistols will be manufactured at the Remington factory in Ilion, New York. Remington plans on shipping the pistols in June.

Specifications
Action Single Action
Caliber .45 ACP
Magazine Capacity 7 rounds
Barrel Length 5"
Barrel Material Stainless Steel
Barrel Finish Satin Black Oxide
Rifling Twist Rate 1:16 LH
Overall Length 8.5"
Overall Height 5.5"
Grip Material Walnut
Grip Design Checkered (Double Diamond)
Trigger Pull 3.5 - 5 lbs
Average Weight 38.5 oz
MSRP (Price) $699

The Freedom Group, Remington's parent company, has now finally entered the handgun market. I would not be surprised to see a concealed carry pistol come forth from Remington or another Freedom Group company with the next year.

J got his hands on the new pistol ...

It is 100% American made: parts and all. The trigger is crisp, and as described in the article. Although there is a small amount of movement in the slide to frame fit, it is very well done for a $699 1911. The loaded chamber indicator is a cut in the hood simliar to S&W and others. This means it won't be acceptible in California in it's current form.

100% American made, good quality control, good trigger, $699 = winner!

reminds me of

when Kimbers first came out,a 1911 loaded with what had otherwise been only available from gunsmiths,at a modest price,i say get 'em before the price goes up.Okay maybe shoot one first, then buy it.I'm guessing a 699.msrp will equal upper 500 at the gun store, hopefully the magazines are compatable with other single stack 1911s.

compatability, it would suck if they use some "top secret" mag at $60 a piece
(like my Walther) :(

When i was into WWII 1911s it seemed most of those i came across were Remies.. We have all seen the break down on how many were made by the diffrent companies, and of course Remington was a major mfg.. This is great and a lower price than i expected.. Hope they bring it out in 9 as well..

ok

So we are back to guns...ahaha! I have a questions, since it is a love hate relationship, or so it seems with 1911 guns, why do you love this gun so much? When I first shot it, I found the whole thing difficult to shoot and thought my Glock was so much easier overall. But after shooting a few times, I liked it...but what is the draw to this style (for you guys)?

As a .45 I just assumed I would have to be prepared for a significant kick, but the fact is the one I shot had less kick than my Glock 19! I could not believe how smoothly it shot. I'm sure it has to do with weight and balance and maybe the fact I was hanging on to it for dear life. I really liked it and it's on my wish list. It's a little big for a carry gun, but damn! It sure would do the job!

I bought the EMP, 1911...I bought it for concealed carry, of course it's not a .45 though, it's a .40 caliber.

the 1911 history is a fantastic story by itself,at 38.5 oz.it's a handful, easy enough to absorb the .45 recoil, when i was teaching Marines to shoot it, we taught one handed shooting position, guys turned their bodies about 22.5 degrees to the target, usually hung your weak hand thumb into a belt loop just to get it out of the way,it was all about breathing, sight picture, sight alignment, and trigger squeeze.
For me shooting a .45 is living history, can't hardly put a round downrange without thinking about Iwo Jima,Guadacanal,Ardennes, etc. Most all 1911s that i have shot were worn out, held together by the Marine armorers,we always seem to have gotten the army cast offs, but once you found the "sweet spot" of a pistol(sometimes we had to aim high to hit low,aim at 3:00 to hit bullseye).guys would literally get into fights to get their particular .45.I shot expert twice, sharpshooter once.
Now getting one of these appeals to me as i would like to have a .45,probably would not Conceal carry it,but i have my Glocks for that.

The history

is the main appeal for me, kinda like greg and his victory models.
My bro bought one of the 1991A1s when they came out.
We went out to the pasture and took out a good sized mesquite tree.
Afterward we just stood there with that "DAMN!" look on our faces.
I have wanted a 1911 since, just havent got one yet.

He's a really good boy unless you get between him and the dishwasher. No shot. He owns the dishwasher. Better be careful. Old Wylie got between Moze and the dishwasher once and Moses was spitting out Wylie's chest hairs for a month.

Why do I like the 1911 so much?
It's more comfortable in my hand than any other semiauto. I shoot it better than any other centerfire semiauto. The recoil, for me, is less than a .38 Special +P in a medium frame revolver. I like the .45 ACP round.
I like the SIG P220 also, and the accuracy is great, but it's not as comfortable in my hand.
