Yes actually. In the last 4 years I have earned my MBA. I have doubled my income and went from a job I hated to one I love. Successfull people succeed irregardless of who occupies the White House. If more people took responsibility for their success and failure, then maybe the country wouldn't be in such trouble. The left needs to stop blaming Bush and the right shouldn't put it all on Obama. We used to be able to compromise for the good of the nation. Now we treat compromise as though it were the plague.

I didn't vote for Obama, and won't this time. However, all the inflammatory rhetoric only divides us as a nation when so many seek to do us harm or undermine our place in the world. United we stand or divided we fall.

I agree

However, Obama is the most devicive president in history. I hope Romney does get the parties and the country more united. There will always be those that will refuse to unite, on both sides. I am glad you are doing better however, a lot of people are not. Also, Irregardless is not a word. It makes you sound un-educated when you use, just trying to help.

It's defined in Wikipedia as an informal term commonly used in the place of regardless or irrespective, which has caused controversy sense the early twentieth century. However, the word has been used in print since 1795. Most dictionaries may consider it to be incorrect or nonstandard.

Look if it has been in use since 1795, I think I can get away with using it. I mean really, do you and LLE get together to try and critique what I say? Maybe I should change my avatar to a hyperlink to Wikipedia and save us all some time. I appriciate that some people have a hang up with proper english usage, but come on. It wouldn't be the first I told an English snob to kiss my ass.

As far as the most divisive( proper spelling here) president in history, that is a debate that will go on forever. Both side are throwing that at Bush and Obama. Are the candidates the divisive ones, or are they just a reflection of us. To get elected, these guys are making all kind of promises and claims. We give our votes to those that promise whatever we want without really questioning if that is possible or prudent. That was the problem with hope and change, no one knew what that was. It sounded good to many. Later when the dust settled, Obama faced the realization that he over promised and under delivered. Is the right so different? Everyone on this site thinks that Obama will take their guns at any moment. In the last 3 years he hasn't done anything of substance to that end. Mitt has signed a law that restricted the rights of gun owners. Food for thought. My take on Mitt is that he more interested in Wall Street as opposed to Main Street. We will see.

You do realize, being an MBA and all, that wikipedia may be edited by anyone, at anytime, irregardless of content ....... RIGHT??

P.S. According to Merriam-Webster a little better source of information regarding spelling and definitions:

Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

Anointing Wikipedia as the ultimate source of validity on almost any subject, endangers desired credibility in argumentation.

Interesting that you cite a "source" for which you could have provided the supporting information for your argument(s) just as easily as you typing your comments here on Gunslot.

HUMOR!!??

The humor involved in that series of commercials, presupposes that staying at a Holiday Inn Express, gives the resident some high level "smarts" and super qualifications. The real humor, in your posting, seems to be little evidence of these kinds of capabilities on your part!!

Do you not see the irony in correcting another person's use of words while misspelling your own? If you are going to critique what someone else is wearing, then don't have your fly undone.

If improper use of language offends, then should we not alter the house rules to require proper grammar. Usually when I'm conversing on the net, I'm not as concerned with format as I am with the message. Then again, unless it was a graded paper for school, I still spoke my mind.

As far as Wikipedia is concerned, if you find something that you feel is incorrect, then challenge it. They have a process to dispute what has been added to each entry. Just sayin

Irony

Ironic that you continue to defend your main source of support for your arguments made in numerous Gunslot entries despite the fact that your "support" may very well be a conglomeration of information added to that source by any yahoo that can get his and/or her hands on a computer. Who decides the "correctness" of the final version of wikipedia (small w used intentionally - just sayin)? Who determines the "winner" of disputes over content on wikipedia?

Who knows, maybe wikipedia will eventually rise to the level of say a Merriam Webster type of authority and/or source of information ...... not likely.

Why not pick a source that is proven and accepted by all to start with? Maybe a lack of the support you need or desire?

Obama and Guns

If you think that Obama and the rest of the progressive and liberal left are not after your guns, you would be very wrong. There is plenty of information out there about how the administration wanted us to be a part of the UN gun ban for starters.

Obama insinuates his real motivation by subtlety with words. In one of his last editions of verbal diharrea, he inserted the term "automatics" so that the unknowing anxious public might believe we are going back to the Chicago, tommygun style of murderous crime wave wars.
To his credit, Romney was able to wedge in a statement that automatic guns are rigidly controlled, and there is a significant difference between "automatic" and "semi-automatic"guns.

But the progressive-neolibs will do anything to exponge from a practical standpoint, the Second Amendment. One of their favorite disinformation tactics is to try to make people believe that any modern black semi-auto rifle is an "assault weapon" because it looks like one [as opposed to how it functions].

Luckily, at least for our business as well as others currently besieged by the ATF, Obama's current comments about the assault weapon ban will likely increase our sales as with anti-gun comments/actions made, and/or anticpated, prior to the last election.

An observation: While we have had periodic attempts to establish a thought-police department here, on GL, in the past, these attempts never got off the ground, because [IMO] of the very high practical intelligence of the members of our community. My guess is our education level ranges from the school of hard-knocks to doctoral level graduates; Sure: we like to joke around and tweak each other, but on subjects that have become serious matters to discuss, maturity level shines through--whether written in perfect grammar and spelling, or not.

I am proud to be a member of this community-- I believe from four years of experience here, that we are able, most of the time, to argue our opinions [importantly] without the goal of proving each other "wrong" OR resorting to personal attacks. I appreciate that value system.

In our exchange in the other thread, you stated that my position was not supportable. So on one thread you want to police thought and on another you criticize it. It seems that you can dish it out, but can't take it yourself.

The purpose of challenging people to look at Romney's record is that should he get elected, our 2nd amendment is still in danger. Should Obama be sent packing, supporters of the 2nd have question Romney just as hard. Why, because he has signed legislation restricting the 2nd amendment. At the debate, he talked about he brought all parties together and that included gun owners. So the gun owners of Massachusetts happily gave up standard capacity magazines and ridiculous restrictions on sporting rifles? Just because he is the lesser of evils doesn't make him good, just less evil. I'm afraid that everyone is so focused on Obama, that come the election, if Mitt wins then they will pack it in and think the crisis has been avoided.

Should Mitt get elected and put then Ryan budget plan into play, what do you think is going to happen? All those people getting benefits have those benefits cut or greatly reduced. Do you think we might have some civil unrest? How sure are you that Romney won't exercise the same executive orders to restore order? Also, if he signed a gun ban once, why wouldn't he do it again as political expediency? He may be better than Obama, but that doesn't mean that he is on our side.

U.S. Political debates feature opinions and philosophies often radically different but both ultimately on the same "side". Thankfully, you are incorrect using the WORD "every" as well as the word "SIDE" in referring to U.S. Political debates - we are all on the same side ...... right ??

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines debate as

A. The formal discussion of a motion before a deliberative body according to the rules of parliamentary procedure

B. a regulated discussion of a proposition between two matched sides

If you missed that last word, it did say sides. If this is the definition, then yes every debate has two sides. Let me pose this question. Can you be both pro choice and pro life? These are sides to a current debate. As Americans, are we joined in a common goal? Take a poll and see how everyone else feels about that. Is major Hassan on our side?

Well at least you have been taught how to choose/use legitimate sources for your comments. Now you just have to learn how to relate the information correctly. I was specific in my comments, you were not, I am comfortable with mine. You unfortunately do not recognize that this type of thinking, namely yours, is a major contributor to the problems we are facing today.

So how do you know what his true motivation is? What specific act can you point to? As I have stated many times that I'm not his supporter, but of the two, Mitt is the one who has passed laws against the 2nd amendment. The un gun ban didn't go anywhere. What can you point to that is solid and concrete. Just because I'm not going to vote for him doesn't mean that I can't be fair. This is what I was asking earlier about our nation becoming devisive, If he is guilty, then by all means fire away. However, making wild unsubstantiated claims does nothing to reduce the overall polarization we seem to find ourselves in. Are we not better than the Al Sharptons of the world? Or has civil discourse died completely?

Obama

There is so much information out there regaurding Obama's anti gun stance. And it is not on Wikipedia, besides appointing two clearly anti gun supreme court justices, what if he gets to appoint more judges. We are still having to deal with activist judges Clinton appointed at all levels.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican presidential
candidate Mitt Romney engaged in a rare tussle over gun control on Tuesday, and Obama
opened the door to pushing for a ban on assault weapons if he wins a second term.

He has talked openly about re-instating the Clinton era bans. In his home town of Chicago and Cook county for that matter, are proposing to double the costs of ammo, they are calling it the violence tax, another clear assault on our 2nd amendment rights. How about the cities adopting a bad parenting tax?

What we choose to do in a few weeks, will ring throughout time, just like the first shots at Lexington and Concorde. This is more than an election, it is about where we are going as a nation. Will will follow europe and cteate a nanny state and create a permanent underclass, or will freedom ring, it is up to us to make it happen.
