Read something the other day, that on commercial flights the pilot is "hands on" a very low percentage of the time.. Some of the trans oceanic flights are 100% .. including the landing..

Maybe this is the geezer in me (ya think) but i like the old way of that crew actually FLYING the bird..

Daisycutter and i both flew third seat (flight engineer) sometimes on P-3's (four engine turbo prop) and while the "sometimes" is more "real occasional" than on a regular basis.. I bet daisy will back me on this.. The auto pilot was used occasionally, but not very often.. maybe just to get on station and back.. not very long..
