My 1st european pheasent hunt.
They all yours? :) Did they dress and pack the birds for you?
I worked at a duck hunting club. I went to work there thinking I was a lousy shot with a scatter gun. Yup, could not hit the broad side of a barn at 10 paces
I was working for a retired GMGC (E7) No duck "hunting" but a lot of 1911A1s shooting for the afternoon beer
I have been to similar pheasant hunts, they are a blast.
This was 2 years ago up in Baxter Springs KS. This was a European hunt. Google it, great fun but a little costly. I've gone 3 times and twice the president of my company picked up the tab. So much fun that I jumped at a third chance at my cost. All in for a 500 bird hunt was $750 and change. The wife said no more. The basic idea is 20 hunters at 10 hunting stations unleash hell as they release the birds. Not as easy as it sounds. They are flying high and fast and you can only use #6 shot or smaller. I shot about 190 12 gauge that day. My shoulder was black and blue for a week. That hunt I got 12 birds I think. Like I said, not as easy as first thought.
seriously bruised shoulder. It's too bad that I'm not worth poo with shotguns. I suppose that's why they invented pistols LOL!
The only shoulder like that I've seen was a kid I was in school with. We borrowed my Dad's Winchester Model 12 riot gun, took out 2 or so boxes of buck shot and slugs. I used my J.C. Higgins bolt action and he used the Model 12. I thought he was going to die of bruises, gosh it was awful .
I was sore for a week, great fun though. I was using my grandfather's auto 5 and that recoil system kicked my butt after a case of shells. It's worth a try even if you aren't any good with a shot gun.
from hatchlings in the lower duck house, after several weeks they were hearded to the upper house and relaease the next day, they flew down the creek bed to the lower house. Once the were full size the "hunters" took up positions along the creek bed and waited for the ducks to be released. Employees gathered up the ducks that failed to make it through the gauntlet, plucked, gutted and chilled them, hunt complete.
Yes they hatch and raise all of the pheasant. They also have quail and chuker. As you pull up to the ranch, you park right by the pens. They have miles of fields for regular field hunts. It's a nice well run place.
I didn't know that they had duck operations like this, sounds fun too. I never really got into duck hunting. Deer was always my favorite. I did like to hunt quail on our farm, but my grandfather treated the quail like pets so I stopped hunting them out of respect. I like the Show Me Birds set up because it's putting more birds out there then what is being taken out.
