No one in the area has one, theres something neat about the bottle neck cartridge, and i looked at a Ruger right after they came out. Waiting to see what happens with the ammo prices before i decide, and sure would like to shoot one first..

17 HMR

i have one.My wife bought me a Rossi matched barrel combo rifle in 17 and 410 5 yrs ago for christmas.the 17 is fun to shoot but gets expensive at 11 bucks a box.at least with my single shot it takes a little longer.if i had it to do again i would have bought a 22 mag.the 17 is ok for small animals like rabbits and such but it leaves a bit to be desired for coyotes at 75 yards even with a head shot.

I can get a Mach2 barrel for my 10/22 from EA Brown. I think the bolt lever that greasypaws put in mine is heavy enough for it. Only problem most of them come in .920" outside diameter and I would have to change my stock.

Talk about a shooter/hunter paradise. This was in 1977, Im sure Sam would remember if he was here then, might be a little early for runaway unless he was pack'n at 5.. On second thought he probabley remembers. I don't know if this is still in effect down in cochees county or not, but you brought in a coyote and you got $15. This required a traping permit (i was never into traping) but they were nominal cost, and an easy 15 bucks.. The angle eject winchester 94 had just come out, and while i didn't put a scope on mine (traper model, looked odd with scope) the 30-30 was perfect for the job.

I don't hunt anymore, sometime in the late eighty's i went in to get my yearly hunting and fishing permit, and for what ever reason just didn't care about hunting as much as i had before, so i've only gotten fishing permits from then on. The thing is that those who do not spend time outside have this romantized view of how animals die, or maybe they just don't think (guessing this is the case) about it. The hunter analogy is like dying in bed at 102 after gett'n a little. Animal death in "natural" situations is not pretty, and (with the exception of those who wound and don't track and finish)that hunters aren't seen as hero's to the PETA crowd only shows thier ignorance of reality. I have issues with trapping, and "staked" trophy hunting, but if the trap line is maintained as it should be it's still preferable to starving with a broken leg.

peta is pretty much liberals on crack. no sense what so ever. if they banned hunting the wildlife would go crazy and would upset the whole ecosystem. everything would be a terrible mess. I dont understand how they cant comprehend that. hunters play a significant role in wildlife management.
