Does Mayor Daley dare order 80-year-old 'gun criminal' arrested?

Dharapak/APMayor Richard Daley says he doesn't know if a man who used an "illegal" firearm to defend his home against an attacking home invader will be charged for the "crime" of defying Chicago's prohibition.

...Daley refused to say today whether an 80-year-old Army veteran who shot and killed an intruder will be charged under the city's handgun ban...The man has been hailed as a hero by his family and neighbors, but Daley cautioned that "guns is not the answer to the problems that we see in a home, in the streets of America. It's as simple as that.

What was the "simple" answer in this case, then, Mayor? We know you have a taxpayer-funded security detail to shield your precious hind end from bayoneted rifle attacks, but what's an elderly (or any other) citizen supposed to do against a violent home invader with "a 13-page rap sheet"?

People need to start suing any and all official office holders who prohibit citizens from protecting there person and property when they are invaded, robbed, and or murdered then the families should sue these people in office, who prohibit them from protecting themselves. The police department is not here to protect you, if they were where is the officer that should be at my door? State and government should be held even to the point of imprisonment liable for the deaths or harm to its citizens when that state or government prohibits them from protecting themselves.

lawyer (hate that word) .. thank God the folks raised me with values, so no..

Actually i have a hard time every time i think about them.. and suspect that this is half of the reason Congress is as ineffectual as it is.. whats the percentage of law degrees in Congress.. something like 90% or so... scary..

All comments above are of course with the exception of Megan Kelly..

I didn't find them by party. This is for the 111th congress. In the general population it is 6%.

Those numbers can't be right.. not so much on the gov.. it sure sounds low.. But honestly im happy if only approx 1/3 of the house, and half the senate are lawyers..

But just can't believe that lawyers make up 6% of the total population.. That's an awful lot of lawyers.. Think about it buddy.. That high a percentage doesn't leave a lot of room for other professions..whats 6% something like one out of 18 or something.. Sure seems high for nation wide numbers.. Maybe 6% of DC's total population.. Even that seems high..

Oh i know its the total population of hell.. Sure that explains it.. sheesh and to think i don't like lawyers..

Bit perplexing, but i will defer to your superior intelect on this one..

Greg: Google it

I found the figures on them there internets and, as you no doubt are aware, the internets are never wrong. Actually, the figures were on the Ron Paul site. That's here: http://www.dailypaul.com/node/94514 With a little more research:

"According to the American Bar Association there are currently 1,116,967 lawyers practicing in the United States. That is approximately one lawyer for every 300 people, or approximately .36% of the total population. These statistics relate only to lawyers currently practicing and maintaining their licenses. There are far more with inactive or retired status."

However, half the population is kids. What you want is the workforce, which is 154 million.

So yer right greg, as a percentage of the workforce it is more like .75%, far less than 6%.
