you would catch in that thing is a cold, literally, those heat exchangers in VW's don't work worth a shit!
didn't even have a gas gauge. When it ran out you just flipped a switch with your foot for another 10 miles or so in 'reserve.' I painted mine purple with two cans of spray paint, stuck some elk antlers on top.
did the Baja thing to. Yanked the 1200 out in favor of a 1600 dual port, bus transaxle with gear reduction boxes, dual webers, all of the usual hop up stuff. It was a speedy little bastard up till about 60 (due to the reduction boxes), I always kept a spare coil in the jockey box as it had a mysterious penchant for puking up coils for no particular reason (yes I used a ballast resistor).
Call me sick but I've always wanted to somehow wedge a big block into one of these probably lost the back seat but wouild be worth it.
OOzerat, There is a big car show here called the "Route 66 Rendezvous". Towrds the end of the day I heard a V* something cruising around and he was hitting the rev limiter. I was looking and looking, I couldn't find this car. The car was a late 60's bug and I finally figured out it was a sleeper. The motor was IN THE FRONT. You could barely see all the holes drilled in the hood for the radiator! Looked stock and had a 350 in it!!
