This is the weapon that changed the concept of small arms in the People's Republic of China. This weapon moved China away from the AK 47 designs and began a new series of small arms that swept into the Chinese Military and Police forces like a whirlwind. Gone are the days of the AK in China. Welcome in the new all Chinese designed and manufactured bullpup rifles and support weapons. This particular example the QBU Type 88 is a beautiful bullpup design, of which there are persistent rumors of Israeli assistance in the design of this rifle, which is further evidence of a clandestine and yet friendly exchange of technology and manufacturing and design techniques between these two unlikely yet apparently close friends. Note the, possibly superficial, yet readily apparent resemblance to something akin to a crose between the Galil and Tavor Family System rifles from Israel.

The following specs are taken from Wikipedia and as always we caution you all to remember that Wiki is not entirely reliable about details and specs. Little Brother and self are working on confirmation of these specs from the manufacturer, but it's in Chinese and we are laboriously going through an automated program translator that is not very good, to glean the truth of these specs from the manufacturer. Please bear with us as we will continue to work on this problem to bring you the most accurate and reliable specs we can possibly discover. It's good practice for research work too, so both Ryu kun and self benefit from the extra work and we hope all of you have enjoyed our series on Small Arms from the People's Republic of China. This bullpup, in particular is one that ryo would like to own. And they are in fact quite reasonably priced. The Type 97A is in fact chambered for the 5.56mm x 45mm NATO standard round and is capable of using ordinary Stanag magazines and is specifically designed for commercial export. This is a most very excellent weapon that led the Chinese to their uber fine QBZ Family System of Rifles and Support Weapons. This particular weapon actually serves a dual role of Designated Marksman's Rifle and Medium Range Sniper Rifle and even though it is a bullpup design, it's capabilities are roughly akin to the KA M110 SASS even though it is slightly shorter ranged than the M110.

Here are the specs as we have them so far:

ryo will make sure for ryu kun to see this when he get hom from shooting proactice with gary chan later today. it's their last day of practice before the final round tomorrow morning. once again, just like last time gary kun is in the lead by 15 point, but this time ryu kun is gonna catch him and win. there is no way that ryu kun will let gary kun beat him twice in a row. the prizes aren't as nice as the last tournament but still considering ammo shortages they are nice. the top winner get 3 cases of ammo of choice. 2nd place winner get 2 cases and 3rd place winner get 1 case of ammo of choice. there are trophies and ribboned medalions and of course flowers for the winners. ryo will be Chief Range Master for the Tournament tomorrow and will be up in the control tower in the Center Seat. it is very high honor and show that the office and the leadership of the club have enough confidence in ryo to allow self to Master the final round. ryo will be on the clock and get double pay too. ryo just love to work and think capitolism and free enterprize is a very fine things.

Little brother and self worked hard on this series and found they were very interesting because about the time the former Soviet Union fell apart was about the time the Chinese decided they needed to make close ties with the Western Powers in particulare, the US, the UK and of all the unlikely allies you might think of for the these people they made open friendship and excange of deeper diplomatic ties and technology especial, military technology. The resemblance of these QBZ weapons to existing Israeli and Singaporean weapons is slight, but unmistakable. Most likely the Singaporeans, who have very good relations with the PRC acted as go betweens with the Chinese and the Israelis. If think about it for few minute it really make much sense for these two country to make friends and have such deep exchanges and opened markets. the Israelis can buy quality steel and other major form goods from China much cheaper than they can buy from the EU neh. and they barter, rather than cash and carry. the Israelis have much space technology that the Chinese need in their quest to put men on the moon in the next 8 to 10 sai. without Israeli technology for this it would take them much longer. Raphael can supply the Chinese with Helium Discs and high performance, high pressure cryogenic valves and fuel cell technology, and small arms technology in exchange for steel for irrigation systems to continue their quest to turn the desert into a paradise. and other goods as well as steel, uranium for example.and tellurium for another metal hard to come by in Israel. tellurium copper alloy make for very fine solid milled bullets neh. Demo the internal mechanisms of these QBZ class small arms are unmistably of Israeli design.

Ya know this rifle reminds me of the L85A1 BullPup Rifle. Are they made by same country? I like it.

the whole of the QBZ series of rifles and support weapons: this rifle was the the precursor or progenitor rifle from which the family system of the QBZ series was developed and it's in fact based on Israeli technologies.

This is a kewl rifle.

My nephew Nick said this rifle is in one of the video games he plays. He said this is a great rifle and don't know it was a real rifle at all.

it's not only real, but the progenitor of all the QBZ Family Systems of Rifles for the People's Repbulic of China. With these weapons arming there entire military and police forces as well as their Special Forces Groups today, it's a good thing we are finally on very friendly terms with the Chinese these days neh. This rifle is a long range Degisnated Marksman's Rifle and an interemediate ranged sniper rifle. It serves really well in both those roles and is light enough to just use as an ordinary rifleman's rifle and so it doesn't stand out to tell the bad guys that this weapon is more dangerous than the others and so the guy carrying it won't get shot first. it's a really fine, reliable weapon. it shoots really far for the type of weapon it is and is reliably accurate over a fairly sizeable number of ranges.
