that's one department the government does not need,i see they went after Red Jacket, now theres a stretch, probably saw the show.... http://www.tmz.com/2011/12/23/sons-of-guns-atf-william-hayden-firearms/#...
I got nothing good to say.
Think they were part of the whole "Ruby Ridge" deal.. Know it was the FBI that did the shooting.. Saw one of the agents break down in a documentary about it, anyway pretty sure it stemmed from a ATF issue to begin with.. I'll take off my tin foil hat pretty soon.. meantime better stuff to discuss..
Torture.. hmm.. i've never had a Python.. but i can think of a number of Colt's that i've sold that i sure wish i still had.. One issue involves SAAs.. but third generation, so replaceable.. guessing a toss up between a light weight Cmdr that i had "customized" some.. and a perfect police positive.. this thing was made in the teens or early twenties, and didn't even have a drag line on the cylinder.. Can't remember what i traded it for, but sure would like to have it back..
Even with all the negative around the 30 carbine round i loved that Blackhawk, and a do over would be cool on that one.
I missed a cased pair of Colt target revolvers, told the guy at the show that he had a great price, and couldn't believe they weren't sold on the last day.. Believe these might have been unturned cylinders one 38 and matching 22..
Never liked the looks of the Colt target sights.. If you know the ones im talking about the front has a pined blade, and the rear is set back.. just flat ugly.. but of course the recess makes an even longer sight picture, and obviously works.. These two were cased together, and perfect.. looked to be post war but not by much.. guy wanted 1K for both, this was two years ago, Wickenburg gun show. Still wish i would have stepped up..Never had a "cased" set, and they would be the perfect pair.
John Dodson worked for the BATFE, if it were not for his integrity, we may have never known about Fast and Furious. There are good people working for the organization. I do not remember as much discussion concerning the BATFE during Reagan's term, or the 2 Bush's. The employees are following policy, That policy may change every 4 years. I will not speak for anyone but myself, but there have been times where I have had to follow policies I did not agree with to complete my task. That is why I can understand the importance of Mr. Dodson's decision to place his family in harms way by reporting unlawful policies demanded of him by his superiors.
It is obtuse to group everyone in the BATFE with David Voth, Gary Grinder, and Eric Holder.
just my opinion though...
your opinion is more than valid, it is at the root of all LE Agencies. Yeah, some crapping things can happen and it isn't everyone on any department that tap dances back and forth over the line. But when something happens almost all fo them end up paying to the actions of the few.
I think that we sometimes forget that Foreign Terrorism was not a reality for as long as it was kept away because of the same people so many (including myself) besmirch at times.
the voice of reason, as stated there are good people in every agency, but the agency as a whole get's a bad rap. When dealing with the BATFE for my C&R, they did what they said, when they said and I couldn't ask for more than that.
organization,Thats tax dollars being tossed out the window, good people or not."fast and Furious" would not even have happened if the gun store owners were allowed to use the existing laws on the books that they knew would prevent these straw purchases.
The ATF created a problem then fixed it at tax payers cost, thats a dollar chasing a dime any way you look at it.Enough said i stick by my statement,The ATF is not necessary.
You can not see past the fact that POTUS is using a single organization to as a face of the attack on firearm owners and the second amendment to the United States Constitution. The BATFE also monitors explosives like the ones used in mining, cigarettes and other tobacco products, as well alcohol commerce.
I disagree with your statement that the ATF created the problem, instead I offer the opinion that President Obama and perhaps Attorney General Holder implemented this draconian process. Phoenix Field Division Group VII supervisor David Goth carried it out with out question and threatened peoples jobs if they did not continue policy.
LBC, are you saying we should deregulate all the responsibilities of BATFE? What do you propose as an alternative? I am all for smaller government, and I think the Fast and Furious policy showed the depths at which the Obama administration would go to desecrate the Bill of Rights, but I will never lump all Agents into one category, that is a lazy form of politics.
would apply to the local police as well, the ATF would not really be needed there. The thieves broke laws, police round up the perps, the courts determine their fate.Singling out individual agents and holding them up as examples does not matter to me,i am talking of the entire ATF as a whole. While i am sure that the gentleman who rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic did so to the best of his abilities,he was still on the Titanic. Then lets look at the responsibilities of the commerce department, homeland security,DOT,DOE,any number of cross reaching government organizations eager to insure their validity and thereby, their budgets and jobs.
what's the solution, first off leadership, everyody seems to be able to point to the problem but nothing is done about it.Second, accountability, either for action or inaction(Holder actually said he didn't read his emails and got a pass, who here does not read their business related emails?) Alcohol and tobacco, really. as in really.Firearms, law abiding citizens should be able to walk around with M60s for all i care, and explosives,ok whatever.
Lazy politics, not really, some people can see the big picture some can't.I think i'm looking at the big picture, what are you looking at?
While I do agree that some have no business owning a gun, I believe it is best handled at a local level. Sheriff, constable, whatever, as long as the citizens have some say and the authorities can be held accountable through local election.
A life time ban on ownership is mighty tough on the guy who has really turned his life around and has become a responsible citizen, but how the hell would a Fed know that? Just like the ones we all know that just aint been caught by the law but should never be allowed to handle a gun.
In a state like Rhode Island it would be justified to make it a state matter. In Texas I don't need or want Austin telling me whatt to do. That's a 1/2 day drive at best and totally different geographically and populous wise. The counties I work and travel in are land wise larger than RI and generally have more cows than people in them.
One size fits all just doesn't make sense on gun laws.
When LBC typed: "what's the solution, first off leadership, everybody seems to be able to point to the problem but nothing is done about it..." solidifies my opinion of the BATFE.
Perhaps I was unclear in my argument.
I can not agree more with anything that has been said. LBC hit the bullseye with this one comment.
For the rest, yes really, alcohol, tobacco, and explosives are regulated by the BATFE. Just because you arrange deck chairs on a passenger ship does not mean that you are responsible for engineering or piloting. You are doing the task assigned to you at that moment.
The big picture is exactly what we are both looking at, to assume otherwise would be arrogant at best. I am only trying to assert my opinion that there are good things a demonized organization does due to it's employees. I am not defending the actions of the organization, but when one categorizes all of one class, e.g. minorities, religions, or even agents, it is lazy politics. I agree with most on this site that the BATFE has over reached it's boundaries, but I believe that is due to the policies conscripted to the employees, rather than the employees out for a witch hunt.
I have been thinking all day(yep another one of"those days") about a solution to the problem, beyond replacing key leaders, making everyone accountable,my third idea would be reducing the scope and reach, and paying close attention to each project, hold each project up to a microscope and say"is this really what we want to do here, what are the results?Maybe a independant committee would have to review future projects, submitted for approval in advance. That committee would be charged with lord knows what, thoughts?
I appreciate being challenged,i assume nothing. Thanks for the headache bitch
At least I was productive on some level today...
Independent committee, reduced scope, conglomeration of agencies...all viable in my opinion, I would want to see the cost of each before a vote of retraction. But again, LBC is correct!!!
the department is rogue http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=48306
I would have to side with Clint here, while I am of the belief that under the second amendment we should be entitled to own full autos, tanks, B-2 bombers etc. but I think there is a need for monitoring explosives for instance. I would like to think that someone is aware when Haji shows up at IFA with his U-haul ordering up a ton of ammonium nitrate, five gallons of diesel and blasting caps. IMO, the BATFE has it's place...
Isn't that what needs to happen to the FED as a whole? I think so and I believe everyone on here does as well.
see what i mean.
Where else but Gunslot could a picture of a t-shirt turn into a discussion of BATFE validity and how the citizens could influence the future of said agency?
