sorta tough..

They eat ya..

Big thing out west.. the gray was introduced in Yellowstone by "enviro" folks.. At the time this happened i supported the effort.. then the Mexican into AZ.. again i supported the effort.. Guess who was on the wrong side..

Grays are now eating cows all over Idaho and Montana.. Not a lot of talk about this as those trying to keep their loss down are smart enough to keep it on the down low as opposed to hanging hide on the fence as in the past.. Wolfs are smart..why chase down a bison when you can get a cow so easy.. also those wolf Tshirt types (i was one i know where of i speak.. wtf) dont get the reality of what happens.. Wolfs will go for the youngest.. those enviro folks would feel a bit different if they saw a cow ripped open and fetus pulled out..or taking a calf down..

I just re read this .. sorry if it comes out wrong.. I know your not lobbing for them to move into FL so don't take it personal.. I'm aware as it was a "learning curve" for me.. i was wrong..

Make no mistake BFT

There is a HUGE difference between Canis lupus (wolf) and Canis lupus familiaris (Dogs)......Since you be having children in the near future, I suggest you look at the latter and choose a Labrador or some such, good with kids, a Wolf is not to be trusted.........

shiite outta me.
No dog that has ever existed or ever will exist is worth a hair on the head of one of my kids.
Mack's Daddy used to have pitbulls but after I gave he & spouse many news stories about babies being killed by pits they've gone with boxers. Not as good as Labs but better than pits

Don't get me wrong, I agree whole heartedly. However, I own German shepards, and no man exists that I would trust more to protect my family. A good dog will lay down it's life to protect it's family. Just my .02 cents.

Eons of instinct

Pack mentality and fighting and killing for alpha position in the pack. Nope, not a pet.
If you got a female, she'd want the males (your son) run off as soon as they were weaned.
Me and many others have tried to raise wild turkeys by incubating clutches of eggs we'd found.
Never worked. The chicks will kill themselves in a few hours trying to escape a pen. In the wild they follow the hen within minutes of hatching because the nest has to be abandoned because the smell of the remaining embrionic matter in the shells attracts predators.

I agree DC, somewhat

My new pooch is a pit bull and she is the sweetest dog I ever met, hands down! Would I have her around infants? No! It's because of the breed I reckon, I had Lab's when my kid's were growing up, now they are older......I can honestly say that there is not a soul on this earth that I would more willingly trust my life too than Amy, my pit bull........

relationship with a pooch. My English Bull was as close as I ever got. She was a pacifist that enjoyed sitting on the toe of my shoe and fart while I scratched her ear.
She never became tempermental, never destructive and never left messes inside the house.
The one and only time she showed her temper, a door to door sales person of colour rang the bell, the kid jumped up, opened the door wide and the dark skinned fellow came fully into the house w/o invite. Puppy took umbrage at the guy barging into the house. She jumped up and chased him all the way to the next block. If her legs were longer she would have dined on dark meat.
We lost her to congestive heart failure.

lol well duh, you dont have wolves as pets, we have domesticated canines as pets, and for German shepards, they are awesome pets for families. Very smart. As for the whole thing about the wolves out west. Screw them cows, damn things aint native to the US, as a random trivia, neither are horses...crazy huh. But I dont feel bad for those cows or the owners, we came and invaded the animals habitat, you cant get mad at the animals for doing whats natural. Why dont those idiots get a fucking brain and move their ranches somewhere else? sucks they lose money by having a few cows eaten, but thats nature baby. We fucked up the survival of the fitest with our shitty society and librals. Watched a documentary about the whole situation. I personally cant stand these people who go out and kill these animals off just to make it easy for them to make their millions. Just like how we fucked over the indians by killing off all the buffalo, 30 million killed in 30 years, makes me sick. Wildlife is beautiful and it must be maintained wild, this is probably the only thing me and libs have in common, shit, nvm the libs dont give a shit either. I like being able to go out to the woods and see wildlife, and I want my kids to be able to do so also, native ones mean the most. Stupid humans think we run the world, why cant we just go hunt those who hunt for nothing, and kill them off. sheesh, this topic gets me fired up. lol

Do you mean that the beef "out west" is not as fresh to you as Florida beef?

The beef I eat is raised on grass, killed in december or january, butchered, wrapped, frozen and sits in my freezer until I thaw it. I have never had better beef than home grown, butchered, frozen.

I hardly call the beef I eat out here in the west "shit".

Hybreds

I've been around them as a Kid up in Maine. Uncle had one and he was what he was. Wolf with some dog in him, us kids where alright with him. But, anyone or anything beyond us kids and my Uncle was pretty much meat.

They had this lady who was raising Wolves who had a pack of around 7 she had rescued. She ran with them, laid out with them in her yard (pen) and took care of them like they were her kids. They eventually all moved into the house with her and they lived like that for about 5 years.

Her family and friends were a bit freaked about it and she slowly quit conversing with a bunch of them, but one would go by at least twice a week and check up on her.

One time this friend goes by and the door to the house is open, no wolf lady, so she walks around back to the pen and still no wolf lady but she notices three of them fighting over something. Guess it was wolf ladies lower leg, they had drug her around into a cluster of trees. When they investigated the tracker said he could read the ground and explain what probably happened.

Said she came out the front of the house and one of them was hiding which jumped her from behind and she fought and ran towards the back of the house. Then the one that was attacking her got serious (figured it was playing at the start otherwise it would have killed her right off) and took her down with her throat in its mouth and all bets were off. A couple of the others joined in and it was on, they drug her deeper into the pen and further into the woods and tore her apart.

They showed videos of her playing with them, laying on top of them, how they would crawl up on their bellies and poke her with their nose. All these cute kind of things. As the videos changed they showed how the attitude of the animals was changing over a period of time to the point where she was keeping them in the pen at all times and not in the house and her saying to the camera how this one made her nervous or that one did something odd.

Sad, they are beautiful no doubt, I think they should have a place of their own. But the USA is not Siberia which spans 11 time zones. They should have reintroduced them where people do not live.

Kind of like the Alligators and Crocodiles here in Florida. The protection act is so far out of whack with the reality of it I will not, can not and never will allow my Dog in any fresh water body in this State. I grew up swimming with Gators, mom has pictures on me as an infant between her feet with gators swimming around the dock and my older brother swimming in an inner tube. But no on fed those Gators and they had a natural fear of humans so they kept their distance.

Now though, with everyone who has moved down here over the years feeding the damn things they expect you to feed them and they do not fear humans one bit in many instances.

Protected sure, protected in populated areas, hell no, fines for first time caught feeding, yup, 1 time and after that A jail sentence of 1 year for the second time and at least 1 year and 1 day the second time . Prison (DOC)....

London police arrest man after dog reportedly attacks 6-year-old girl
Published January 22, 2012
|
LONDON – A man was arrested Sunday after a dog mauled a 6-year-old girl in front of her parents, biting off part of one ear during the attack in northeast London.
The seriously-injured girl also suffered wounds to her neck and shoulder, and police officers said she probably would be scarred for life.
She was taken to the hospital for surgery after the incident, which happened at about midday local time Saturday.
Police arrived at the scene in Waltham Forest shortly afterward, but the dog -- described as a black and white Bull Terrier-type -- and its owner had gone.
A 56-year-old man has since handed himself in and is being questioned by police.
Scotland Yard said he walked into a police station and was arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place.
Detective Sergeant Stuart Cheek of London's Metropolitan Police said, "This was an appalling incident that left a young child with serious injuries, which are likely to scar her for life."
He added, "I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened, was in the area at the time of the attack or has noticed anything since that might assist the investigation to get in touch as soon as possible. It is crucial that we find those responsible so that no one else is put at risk by this dog and its owner."
According to the Bull Terrier Club UK, the breed generally is considered "good-natured and loving to all humans" but should not always be trusted with other animals.
In October 2011, a Bull Terrier-type dog bit a six-year-old girl in the face in southwest London. She lost teeth and suffered a one-inch (2.5-centimeter) cut to her lip.

Sad fact that Feral Dog packs are on a rise in many Cities and Detroit is one of the worst. Dog's you would not really consider Pack Animals on the face of it do band together in the hopes of surviving.

Another thing is Yote's coming into densely populated areas. They walk down the street like they own it, we've two that live in our area. Hell we have a Monkey that has been running around through 4 or 5 counties which was last seen in our area.

The lady with the Equinox 229 I was speaking of that had it Hydro Dipped. She has a Big Cat rescue she runs. Right now she has 3 big cats , great lday, good heart. But why in hell they allow her to have a Jaguar and two Panthers in her home, I don't care how big a house it is or how big her yard is, is beyond me. If she lived in the country with loads of property, then ok, but in City Limits, in a Sub Division?

This lady got them on a fluke. Story ran in the paper about this guy not being able to keep his pet and how everyone was wanting him to pay them to take it off his hands. He had it declawed and the fangs removed so it couldn't protect itself at most places to begin with.

So she just had to keep it, the others she has and more in the past were in the same boat pretty much. People declaw them, blah blah blah, and she ended up with them.

Honestly, I don't believe that Exotics should be allowed. It almost always never bodes well for the animal in the end. Unless it is someone who is dedicated to the animal and has property to setup and run a controlled Range for them and lets them live natural for the most part.

I blame the owner more than the animal....

I'll keep my opinions and thoughts to myself. But suffice it to say that most City dwellers don't know squat about the dogs they just have to have and then they know dick snot about socializing or training.

Dog attacks

Absolutely. Every time I hear about a dog "attack", I roll my eyes. Not that it can't just be the dog, it happens. But mostly, that's just not a dog's way. Usually, the dog "attacked" the kid b/c the kid threw rocks at it or poke it with a stick as he walked by every day and one day the dog had enough. Or the owners trained it to be means, intentionally or unintentionally.

But, in my experience, dogs don't just attack for no reason.

St.JMB,

You said: "Usually, the dog "attacked" the kid b/c the kid threw rocks at it or poke it with a stick as he walked by every day and one day the dog had enough."

"Dog bites send nearly 368,000 victims to hospital emergency departments per year (1,008 per day). Gray wolves...

I know a man that is actually considering trying to bring some down here to Texas. I'm not sure how well that will work, and needless to say, his neighbors aren't happy. He's building a 400 acre cage for them. Double row of 10 ft steel high-fence,with fence trenched at the base and set into concrete going 3 ft down. I don't think the cost is worth it, but if the man has the money, I'm not gonna tell him how to spend it.

This is what I was talking about before. If your setup for it, then I really do not see a problem with it. It actually could work out to be good for the Species over time with ensuring the separation of Blood lines.

Sorry man, I didn't mean to ignore you. I just didn't know if I got you steamed over my post. What I was trying to convey is that dogs don't attack for no reason at all. And I think most of the attacks are due to the dog being teased, or being trained to be mean like ISD was saying, or the person that was attacked didn't understand a dog's nature and was invading their territory or threatening their pack (family), etc.
I just don't believe when someone claims a dog attacked them "for no reason at all". There's always a reason. We just don't understand. But the saddest part is when it is because their owners trained them to be mean and attack. You can't fault the dog, it's their dipshit owners' fault, but once a dog is mean, it stays mean. You have to put it down.
