Guns Cause Cognitive Dissonance

There has been a lot of commentary about the Obama-Gun incident. Karen nailed it. Lew shared a great interview that Ron did about it. Certainly I don’t need to add my 1.5 cents to the discussion, but there’s something about this whole debate that puzzles me. In fact, I’m beyond puzzled. I’m flummoxed. Bamboozled. Flabbergasted. Hood-Winked. Run Amok.

During both Chris Matthews’s hysterical interview and the nearly-hysterical guy interviewing Ron Paul, the discussion kept returning to this point: How could this guy show up to a rally with the President, carrying a gun, and not realize that his gun could be used for dangerous things? That’s a good question, and might even be valid except for one other fact. There are always lots, and lots, and lots of guys carrying guns at every rally where President Barack shows up. As best I can tell, the members of a Secret Service detail are carrying at least two (2) guns each! (I gather this just from the outlines I picked out when Hillary came to my office.)

What makes those guns safe while William Kostric’s gun is a threat? The argument from morality should inform us. Nothing. If one set of humans can be authorized to carry a gun based upon the decree of another set of humans, then so can you, or I, William Kostric, period. That moral point is unassailable, unless some mystical fairy bestowed special dispensation on agents of the State without my knowledge. A special uniform or position does not an infallible gun-carrying man make

It seems a vey easy disassociation for the Chris Mathis(?) interviewers to give gun carrying to the SS guys(and others)that are with the presidential detail, after all each member of the Presidents detail have extensive background checks and pedigrees as well.
This Chris interviewer was trying to project a scenario onto this incident to make this guy that was legally carrying seem inappropriate, which by my looking at the interview between these 2 guys( chris the interviewer from msnbc, and the guy legally open carrying)failed to do.
Again the News tried to hype the EMOTION of the incident, not the LEGALITY,that by itself should raise the eyebrows.
These news agencies need to be called to task for their journalism.

entertainment for ratings and money. yes articles get rated like tv shows and they even hold awards ceremonies for these things. most of the 24 hour news services have to offer the news in entertainment formats in order to keep their audience share up and so have higher ratings which in turn translate into what they can charge per minute for commercial advertising and all this go on BEFORE anything of merit in terms of real news. but ryo is fairly certain you are already aware of this. but the question here is HOW do we hold them to task ka how to we hole their feet to the fire ka what can we as ordinary citizens do to improve the system by which the news is deliver to us ka these are real questions that deserve real answers. for the rest ryo simply as useual agree with you 100 percent. Chris,
Once again your Left Wing Bias shines through. A gentleman goes to a rally in New Hampshire and is open carrying a weapon. The law in NH permits this by virtue of statute and the 2nd Ammendment.
He was completely justified in his actions. How many secret service, police and othe Law Enforcement types were there and carrying weapons. The SS each carry two weapons at all times... Is it reasonable to say that only LEO are allowed to carry weapons? I have a Concealed Carry Permit and live in a State that also permits open carry of a weapon. I moved out of the State of California, because it became so oppressive that I could not reasonably protect my family. If you would report the true facts sometimes, "More guns equal less crime" Proven Fact. Is it no wonder that you continue to lose viewership as part of the mass media. We are not all awe struck Obamaites, following blindly along. Most of us have brains and use them constructively. If it is legal, then I am going to continue doing it!

i agree,i saw SamD e-mail to Chris Matthews(thanks) and that type of e-mail to these people is exactly what it takes.
I don't think there is PRINCIPAL in journalism any way,the journalists just cover themselves with the word as a blanket to try and justify their position.
These e-mails like sam sent do work, maybe not to the big wigs at the top but they do chip at the foundation.

on behalf of my little brother and my self for your kind words about our latest series of pictures and little blurb writeups that we do for them. we've been doing these little weapons picture series since we first joined the forum and they are almost all multiple pictures for related rifles in what are often referred to as "Family System" rifles, meaning of course that the rifles in the serie are related even though often, we have discovered, this does not alway mean interchangeable parts or at least not completely interchangeable parts. Demo, some of them such as the M16 and M4 rifles have as much as 50 to 80 percent interchangeability in weapons seemingly unrelated. we are not doing American weapons because practically everything has been done already on the site and we want to bring the different and the interesting and the unusual to the good people of the Gunslot Army. we learn a lot from researching and making sure of our facts and when we are not sure of our facts we state that right up front for everyone to see. we do not want anyone to get the wrong impression of us being lazy or careless about our work. we honto enjoy doing this and contributing to the site. so far we have done mainly picture series, but we have in mind a project for a video serie. we'll keep you and everyone else posted as this video serie idea develop.

Your friends,
