these kind of barrels are great until you shoot one in low light and then you can forget about seeing the front sight afterwards.

I also have several of these and they really do help. Just one remark. If
you are going to cary that G19 Inside your pants(IWB) with an extended barrel, do some testing., ie, sit down, move around, make sure it is comfortable. I can't put an extended barrel in my G23 because when I sit down(IWB) it pinches my ass. I do Mexican carry though (which I strongly urge you not to do).

I don't see this as any real issue. I had a .357 that lit up like a small howitzer, but the flash was so fast that it didn't affect my night vision that bad. Most defensive ammo has flash supressant in it to reduce muzzle flash anyway. Maybe if you're in a pitch black environment, but nearly every place you would use a gun, you will have ambient light or a flashlight. I don't like ported barrels, but only because when firing from a retention position, you tend to have hot gasses directed toward your face. The night vision argument really isn't valid for a 9mm or .40 defensive gun. Now a 500 S&W 4" barrel on the other hand...

Never had problems with a ported barrel blewing hot gases in my face. The ports in the barrel were done wrong then. Have shot with ported or comp barrels for years and never had this problem once. Shooting with a ported barrel are night you WILL having problem seeing the front sight.

i have the g17 and my guns are for "home defence" only..i have no plans to carry at this time..being a trucker i enter so many different states that its inpratical to carry legally..i would like to make the glock a little more steady for my wife to shoot...TUCO, did he mexican carry??? lol

I think they did a lot of that.Generally, between their pants and belt though. Probably didn't have any underwear(lots of sharp corners).

Retention position is fired with the gun riding at the strongside hip, canted away as to keep the slide from contacting the body, sort of like the speed rock position. Ports directly on top may not be an issue, but the guns with the ports on either side of the front sight are angled and when I've toyes around with them, such as my Taurus 357 factory ported snubbie, the left side ports lined up perfectly to blast me in the face if I'd gone live fire. I can't see a ported 9mm being as bad for the night vision as a 357 with 158 gr SWC handloads, and I was still able to see my sights after a cylinder of that.
