God Bless the South.
marks the spot!...sss
if was to jus free slaves...shit been done quick
If the Civil War was to free the slaves
why did that issue come up in 1863 two years
after the Civil War started ?
Why were there riots in New York when the
people found out they were fighting to free
Just curious .
The civil war was fought when eleven Southern slave states declared their secession from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America, also known as "the Confederacy". Led by Jefferson Davis, they fought against the United States (the Union), which was supported by all the free states and generally by the five border slave states.
From Wikipedia. Here is the link in case ya want to read further. Maybe the answer to your question will be found in that.
How ya doing guy ?
I have been a member of "Sons of Confederate Veterans"
about as long as you are old.
We do re enactments and study the Civil War.
We Honor our ancestors with grave markers
and do every thing we can to locate graves
of these brave men.
I have a complete library of books on the Civil; War
The Sons of Confederate Veterans is made up of men
who have a direct blood line to Civil War soldiers. It
is not a hate group as some seem to think.
There is also a group called
Sons of Union Veterans if your
blood line goes that way.
Check them out, there are camps all over
Va. and in all states. Some camps are in
foreign countries and they seem to be
pretty straight up guys.
I have an ancestor who was in the civil war fighting for the south who was killed. I have 2 accounts of where he was killed but not sure which is the right one. One account is from me uncle who said he died in the battle of Gettysburg and another Uncle says he was killed at Chickamauga. Like I said not sure which is accurate. His name was John Colley. Have you found a grave with the name anywhere? Just curious as I would like to find out where he is buried.
Do you happen to know what unit he was in?
SCV National Headquarters has a help line
to find graves. I'll send you that info
Not sure what unit he was in,our family here does not know much detail on him. What we know for a fact is he was in the civil war in the confederate army and he was killed in battle. But the place of death and which battle we do not know as fact. Like I said me uncles give to different places of death but to me I am not sure if they are right. I would love to learn about my ancestor John Colley and have facts to share with me family and see to possibly getting his remains buried in a family cemetary with military honors if possible. He did what his job commanded and died a brave soldier.
Do you know what state he lived in?
Mabe VA ?
Not sure, but I would say VA is a good place to start.
I found 4 John Colleys in Va Confederate army. units
Can you get anymore info ?
Any of them killed in action? Maybe that will narrow it down. I dont know anything else on him.
I'd give her a crack at the title!!
I bet she could whip your ass.
She looks like a coon hunter to me.
a '69 General Lee also I claim her as I am in the south!
