His wife was on our Board of Trustees. He also got his for actions at Pearl Harbor. By the time I knew him he was grey haired and a bit overweight. Looked kind of like a cross between Sam and LLE. I remember being with a small group of people and someone mentioned his medal. A couple of other people in the group said, "Oh, wow!" and all that. He turned to them and said,
"Seems unlikely, doesn't it? with a little laugh. His name was McCool. He was very low key and self effacing about the whole thing.
a lot braver-----------but alas, I have more hair!!!!!!
VIVA Finn !
I both lived in Pine Valley California. Nice guy. The Navy FINALLY named a ship for him but after he died.
Just to be sure you understand, Lt. Finn and I did the same work in the Navy and lived in the same small town but did not know one another. We visited briefly at a convention banquet in St. Louis several years ago when he asked my opinion of one of the food items.
Everyone I know who knew him agreed that he was a nice guy.
