The M14 EBR is a 7.62x51mm (.308) Battle Rifle and Sniper Rifle. It has been in production since 2004. The rifle was designed in the U.S. by Mike Rock and Jim Ribordy originally but now is designed by Smith Enterprises Inc. Its manufactured by Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division with Smith Enterprises (Supplying parts) and Sage International (For the stock). It weighs roughly 11.24 lbs and has a range of 500 yards with open sites and 875 yards with optics. The creation of the M14 EBR was made by request from the U.S. Navy SEALs for a more compact type of rifle. The rifle also has a collapsible stock. Testing of the rifle was effective but had severe nois problems. The navy SEALs were first to be armed with the EBR in 2004. The weapon takes the standard M14 action and barrel assembly and adds a telescoping stock and a pistol grip.Several configurations are allowed on the M14 EBR , among them include the attachment of the AN/PVS-4 night vision scope. Others had included the capability of adding two different scopes/sights on the Picatinny rails.
