LEGO my gun: S.I. Boy Faced Suspension Over Tiny Toy
A fourth grade New Dorp boy faced the prospect of suspension after the principal at his South Beach school saw him playing with an action figure carrying a toy machine gun.
Patrick Timoney, a 9-year-old student at PS 52, and friends were playing with LEGOs during their lunch period when the principal took him into her office over the two-inch toy gun carried by a standard policeman figure.
Margie Feinberg, a spokeswoman for the Department of Education, told the Staten Island Advance that there is a no-tolerance policy for toy guns in schools.
Therefore the principal, Evelyn Matroianni, deemed the pinky-sized toy gun suspension-worthy. Matroianni told Laura Timoney, the boy’s mother, that she would check with a DOE security administrator.
But Ms. Timoney told the Advance that the DOE administrator said no other action was necessary after the toy gun is confiscated and returned to the parents at the end of the day.
According to Ms. Timoney, while another child had an action figure holding an ax, her son was the only one to be approached by the principal.
"It's crazy," Ms. Timoney told the Advance, "He's missing class time, all for silly toys. The boys are just trying to relax. If there's a real threat, why not call the Police Department?"

about a year ago my daughter (9 at the time) got hold of her bro's pocket knife, it's a real mean one too, 2" blade and everystuff!!! Anyhoo she took it to school unbeknownst to me obviously and showed it around.........HOLY SHIT!!!, I thought they were gonna call in the Utah National guard!!!!...I got the zero tolorance lecture and what not.......
Hmmmm, maybe we should look at other facets of our lives with "zero tolorance" attitudes............The fucking boarder comes to mind...I digress!

Oh well, water under the bridge......They will be happy to know that daughter is working with a 9mm Ruger and a 20rd mag now (we hate reloading)...that principal would "shit bricks", maybe she has, Cheyenne doesn't keep anything to herself...LOL!

My kids went to and are going to the same school as me and my dad went to.
Hell My grandad was on the school board before I was born!.
Been to my share of "parent ,teacher" conferences.
They can learn! I usually just get a note now or a message on the answering machine.
No detention, no reduction in grades, no B.S.
They know I'm right and the "rules" are stupid.
Besides, I know all the current board members personally.

Agreed!!!! This used to be a small town (or small part of town, out in the boonies), still is a little bit. There are a handful of families that are "old school",been here for ever...I don't know if you saw my Llamas post the other day (for ebears benefit), the Hansen family has retained a good amount of land and has their Llamas...
Anywhoo, their family and mine, amongst others have been here since the 30's.
