Happy

Saint Patrick's Day! Have a drink!
My dad was 100% Irish. Because of his father's extreme alcohol abuse, he was a teetotaler and constantly railed at me about the evils of drinking. However, the wore the green on St. Patrick's Day, and always expressed pride at being Irish. He was even very proud of his (bad) Irish temper. What a guy! This might be one of the many reasons that I grew up so fucked up.

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man. (Mark Twain).

St. Patrick's day

Why do we celebrate St. Patrick's day? Honestly, I do not know. What is he the patron saint of? And why do people insist on wearing green and drinking green beer?

Yeah,

I like drinking beer no matter what color it is, I don't discriminate.

Aren't you American? Is it a hertiage thing? I get so confused on these days we celebrate other country's holidays. Cinco de mayo comes to mind as well. But then again I disagree with Mothers, Fathers, Veterans, Memorial, Valentines, etc. days. I look at those holidays as amatuer hour. If those people meant anything at all, they would be celebrated as much as you value them.

I guess this is where the flames start?

It's just a celebration of Ireland. Genealogically speaking, people of Irish descent are the second largest self-reported ethnic group in the United States. One in six people in the US can trace their ancestry to Ireland.

I admit I am ignorant of this holiday so here is me sounding gullible: is he really the patron saint of beer?

but I am tentatively scheduled to fly to Baghdad tomorrow, then one night there, onto Dubai and scheduled to touch down in Chicago for 4 hours awaiting my flight to Wilkes-Barre, PA for a week there then out to Tucson. I will be hammered in the Dubai airport first, sleep, then drink again in Chicago (arrive early, so Bloody Marys), then onto Beer for the flight home!!! All in celebration of St. Patrick's Day (even if it is late!)

He created the Mr. Bean character - one of the funniest ever on TV.
He also acted in Black Adder, and in some show that was about a bunch of cops in the most fucked up precinct in England.
For me, he almost ranks up there with the Monty Python gang.
Speaking of them, how about the show about the All England Twit Contest, or the one about the Department of Funny Walks, or the one about lumberjacks.
