Looks like a good finish to a Spring turkey hunt. What did you use to call hime in?
nice bird,is turkey season there spring and fall? It is Turkey season here now as well.I have not done it but think i better get after it.Save me a piece.
thanks guys.he came runnin from about 1/2 mile away to my buddys slate call.he put on quite a show,he strutted and drumed and gobbled for about 45 min just out of my range, but he finaly came down right to 30 yds and stuck his head out.perfect profile...BANG!got him with my old 2 3/4" 1100 used win super X 1 1/2 oz #4.luckybychoice we have a spring season(right now) 1bearded bird a day 3 per season, and we have a fall hunt 1 bird jake tom or hen.basicly just a hunt for your thanksgiving bird.
Damn. And I got diddly and squat. I guess I have to go to Wal-Mart and pick up a butter ball.
out here its really extra hard to get a bird, but my buddy and i kinda got turned on to a little one stop shop huntin area, squirl, quail, dove, coyote, turkey, and weve got quite a few wild mushrooms there(lions mane)incase anyone else picks wild mushrooms all on a little piece of land nobody else hunts!havent seen a single new shotgun shell on the ground,or ran into another hunter.just got lucky!my buddy got a trophy bird there 4 days earlier,1 1/16" spurs,10 3/4" beard, weighed 20 lbs...lucky asshole.on a side note goes to show you what an old 2 3/4" gun can do!!!!!!shoot str8 SJMB!
ya,its my favorite place to hunt squirl and quail.did pretty good last turkey season too,but others have discovered it,so I'm doing my best to get closer to their flydown areas, and find new ambush spots, the birds have changed their pattern a little bit,and stick more to property i can't hunt, and near houses.thought i was gina bag one today, but he wouldn't come in.still think i have a good chance at get in one there but i got a couple other spots too, just not as familiar with those birds.
place but they do move around. Had a heck of a lot of acorns last fall, expected to see some turks but maybe I looked the wrong way :<) Plenty of deer though.
Never seen so many squirrels, some of the tree-rats don't even try to run when I approach them so I walk way around. They can be vicious little buggers.
Wifey does not want me to shoot them, she turns green at the thought of eating them.
Time to get back to work!
have a good one daisy!my wife is pretty fond of tree rats, she called one in here at home a couple weeks ago, maybe she's get in ready to take the step into hunting.
bet that bird tasted great :>)
sure did tall guy.saved it till thanksgiving, had it cut into legs, and breasts, put it in an oven bag on top of potatoes carrots celery and a tbs of butter with a light grilling marinade rub.everyone told me it was the best turkey ever.super juicy, and fell off the bone.
