I have 3 more mag's coming since it only holds 7, and the extended grip to go on the mags for a full grip for anyone with small hands. Gun on sale for 229 I went for it. Was their display gun and was the last one so it has some light wear and scratches on it but functions perfectly.

Well hell, I guess

they figure that if you are 'rocking' a .380, you don't need sights, you best be within ten feet anyhow......LOL!

Yeah DC, I like it as

a backup, I guess, if the alternative is 'whacking' the dude with a stick, my PPS is my main carry gun, but the sights on the Taurus suck ****!, they amount to three 'bumps' on the slide and nothing more, not good!

Don't get me wrong DC,

the .380 ain't no target rifle round, it's a good gun for the price, but the sights leave a bit to be desired.....Again, when talking a .380, pointed in the right direction will do.

The 709 sights are pretty much full size sights. I have no problem with them yet.

are fantastic CCW choices and are not cost prohibitive.

Just make sure what ever defense ammo you decide to go with, you have shot a few mags of it to ensure it is going to feed and eject as prescribed.

That should be with every firearm, not just these two pistols.

He is the one who called me to tell me about the price. I had told him to inform me of any good sales. He called me and told me they had just sold their last one besides display. Sold it to me at his discount.

I plan on starting my trials with different defense ammo this coming weekend. Plan on going and getting a couple boxes to start with and go from there. Anyone with a Taurus 9mm or preferably a slim who has used defense ammo I would appreciate any tips.

there are a good number of loads to try out.

Check and see what ammo your local Police Dept is using for one thing.

http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/product_info.php/pName/50rds-9mm-wincheste...
Winchester Ranger "T" <-- this is what I carry and keep in my 9 mm's
Federal HydraShock
Federal Critical Defense
Speer Gold Dot
Remington Golden Saber

I use the 147 grain Ranger T (renamed Black Talon without the Black Paint) in the Subsonic flavor. I use this particular round because it has great ballistics and allows for very fast follow up shots because the pistol does not move off target much if at all in smaller, lighter CCW pistols.

is Corbon, but I wouldn't use that in the Slim, more for a Duty size weapon...

Subsonic Rounds

I like the Idea of a subsonic round for when my wife carries. Easier follow up shots and would make her more likely to actually carry. Problem is this. I have heard that subsonic rounds do not work well with short barreled pistols due to the lower velocity. Anyone know much about this?

barrel length should not be a big factor in subsonic rounds. Try some web searches to see if there has been tests on that.
Just a fast and simple "Bing" search I got this:

Speer 9mm 124 grain Gold Dot JHP, 8/6/98:

Test Gun Barrel Length Velocity Bare Gelatin
Denim Covered Gelatin

Penetration Expansion Penetration Expansion
Star M43 Firestar
3.4" 1068 fps 12.6" 0.59" 17.5" 0.51"
Notes: BB calibration velocity 583 fps/penetration 9.8 cm. Penetration and expansion values listed are three shot averages per test event. Denim Shot #3 exited gelatin block after penetrating 16 inches. Penetration depths listed are corrected [MacPherson, Duncan: "A Simplified Penetration Depth Correction for Data Taken in Non-Standard Gelatin." Wound Ballistics Review 2(2); 41-45, 1995.] Click here to view recovered bullets.

Federal 9mm 135 grain Personal Defense HydraShok JHP, 8/6/98:

Test Gun Barrel Length Velocity Bare Gelatin
Denim Covered Gelatin

Penetration Expansion Penetration Expansion
Star M43 Firestar
3.4" 974 fps 9.6" 0.62" ? .51"
Notes: BB calibration velocity 588 fps/penetration 10.6 cm. Penetration and expansion values listed are three shot averages per test event. Bare gelatin shot #1 exited block. Denim Shot #2 skidded between test stand and gelatin block, came to rest after penetrating 14.4 inches, and was invalidated. Denim shot #3 exited block. Penetration depths listed are corrected [MacPherson, Duncan: "A Simplified Penetration Depth Correction for Data Taken in Non-Standard Gelatin." Wound Ballistics Review 2(2); 41-45, 1995.] Click here to view recovered bullets.

Speer 9mm 147 grain Gold Dot JHP (uncalibrated gelatin), 8/6/98:

Test Gun Barrel Length Velocity Bare Gelatin
Denim Covered Gelatin

Penetration Expansion Penetration Expansion
Star M43 Firestar
3.4" 924 fps ~14.8" 0.57" ~14.7" 0.55"
Notes: BB calibration velocity 588 fps/penetration depth verified but not recorded. Penetration depth values listed are three shot averages per test event. Penetration depths are approximate due to incomplete BB calibration data. Click here to view recovered bullets.

Did Clint answer that for you?

defense ammo

I really like HST, but Corbon DPX and Win T series are good also. ISD is right, make sure it feeds and ejects correctly before carrying.

these 124 gr's aren't too bad on recoil

Thanks Reaper

That is actually one of the boxes I bought. To be honest I think that more than anything if I can "trick" my wife into believing they are subsonic it would mean more than anything. She knows her way around a gun well enough and knows enough to get herself confused. She read an article somewhere that recommended that women use subsonic ammo to help with their follow up shots if they needed. Well my wife could use some help but I think it is mainly in her head. For example: when I had my .45 she was shooting heavy +P loads and thought they were easier to shoot than any of the light loads I had, mainly because I was trying to trick her. Was just curious. I've got a good idea now but I'm going to grab a box to try out anyway. At least then I will have a box that says subsonic on it to fool the wife with later on if needed.

Barrel Length 3.5"
Velocity : 864 fps
Bare Gelatin: Expansion 0.61" / Penetration 13.80"
Clothed Gelatin: Expansion 0.59 " / Penetration 15.25"

Thats Winchester Ranger T ballistic datum from the FBI test.

I happen to have Winchester on the mind lately so thats what I used as an example.

Though I have to admit I like 357 Sig too... Of course carrying that is plain mean...

PT738 vs PT709 sights

Hamp this is a comparison between your PT738 and my PT709. 738 is on top and 709 below it. big difference in size and sights.
