Which this is guys.. the unshrouded ejector rod being the key.. the new police is the 32 smith and wesson round.. Both of my old colts are in 32 colt which is NOT the round that the S&W is..
The big thing about the dic specials as thier fondly called over the J frame is that it's 6 round as opposed to 5 in the J..
I bought a detective special for gloria (shrouded ejector rod) that is her night stand piece, as one of the old colts is also hers she "out owns me" 2 to 1 on Colts right now..

32 Colt New Police Cartridge is the politically correct name for the .32 Smith and Wesson Long when chambered in a Colt. Colt did this - both with the .32 and the .38 Special - named them the “Colt New Police” to avoid advertising the Smith and Wesson developments. The Police Positive Special will fire the old .32 S&W cartridge as well as the Long and will not do at all well with the old .32 Colt and Long Colt Cartridges.
