.38-100 means a .38 caliber with a 100 grain bullet. Comes from the black powder days. I.E. .45-120-550-3 1/4 MEANS A .45 Caliber, 120 grains of black powder 550 grain bullet and a shell caseing of 3 1/4 inches.
