Pards Padre Plinkers.. or why you "roll your own"

Pards Padre Plinkers.. or why you "roll your own"

Finally got this puppy to work.. Sorry for all the interruptions, etc earlier.. it's frustrating to burn up batteries.. As you all guessed i was used to a window popping up when i plugged the cable in, so i got smart enough to use the systems help thingie.. I had tried that once before and came close to "launching" this thing.. (pull!!) Anyway the dramas passed and picture is up..

A couple months ago i was bitching about the price of ammo.. It's great to have a place to shoot close but it was getting expensive, and a LOT harder to find.. Vaq had mentioned that he rolled his own so being the the type of guy who takes advantage of friends i asked him to send me some.. This was an exercise in how friends are supposed to treat each other, will skip the details, but we both bent over backwards to try and make it a good deal for the other person.. Vaq won.. I open up 200 rounds of reloads, and on top of everything else see he's packed a brick or Remmi JHP 22s.. So no pard were not even yet...but we will be..

i had wanted a step down 38 round. Asked pard to see if he could find something that was maybe semi wad cutter.. lighter weight, but over 700 fps.. something fun to shoot, but not as light as a target wad cutter..

If you guys remember back in the early eighties when they were taking bids for the 9mm to replace our beloved 1911, the A/F came up with a bullet that was conical flat nosed, semi rimmed wad cutter that was a tad heavier than the normal 115 gr 9 round.. what pard loaded looks exactly like that round.. I knew i was going to like them when i took a couple out, and saw he had every case polished (actually more shine than new ammo).. every crimp, and every primer is perfect.. Our bud knew they were going to be great which is why he's been giving me shit to get out to the range all week...

the results are pretty clear.. and heres whats cool.. those gentleman while not quite 15 yds (pretty close to it) are OFF HAND.. I used a K frame that has a target trigger, and the total group comes in a hair over 1&1/2 inches with two out of five touching.. Their a joy to shoot, im guessing they clock about 750 + and of course identical.. In short .. and not because Pard is my friend, but because its true.. If any of the major companies put these on the shelf they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock...

I took a pic of the rounds to, but it came out blurry.. If my batteries still holding that will follow tomorrow.. Thanks pard.. they are perfect..

Great group

That's far, far better than I can do these days (I flatter myself that I could once shoot pretty well). Good job on both of your parts.

Thanks Bob..

We kid about stuff, but fact is this was a REAL important thing to me.. I would always take on any new staff.. and still work on tactical speed loader drills.. With my back (not Greasys, but serious issues) i'm pretty sure i couldn't go thru the full course of fire we had in the past.. but it was a great feeling to shoot this off hand.. You know how you KNOW its tight before you check.. i was pretty sure i didn't have a flyer in the group.. I'm thinking Gloria, and the girls are going to love them to..

Funny thing guys..

Just the opposite with rifles.. We had mini 14's in the agency.. and did the normal qualifying course for LE.. i always qualified.. But never got an expert pin for the rifle... Grew up shooting rifles to.. For what ever reason. just never got above average.

Pistols have always been my thing, from the early days of PPC, and bowling pins.. and im L eye dominant right handed.. go figure huh.. should be the other way around..

i got lucker than most in the "parent draw".. and yep back then they would have tried to break a south paw, but also know they would have told me about it later.. nope from the earliest memory i was a righty.. maybe a fluke or something.. just know i am (L dom eye, R hand).. It's not that unusual we'd run into this on the range a lot.. The thing was tho, that this would be an issue with handguns, (keeping both eyes open as you have to) but not with Rifles...

Old gregs just odd... what ever.. did Greasy say when he was leaving for TX

Very nice group greg,

I'm jealous as rifles have always been my forte. I'm not sure that I could group like that strong hand, much less off hand.

off hand means standing.. weak hand would be with the "off" hand .. All agencies require the course of fire to include "weak hand" as part of the course of fire... Normally this is done from the 3 yard post.. and seldom includes more than 2 magazines if that..

off hand is simply braced in what ever style you shoot.. (i shoot a modified weaver) and standing.. with my back i have a hard time holding a good sight picture for any lengthy shooting session.. Normally when i go to the range i will brace myself on the wheel of the vehicle, and from a sitting braced position of course you can almost duplicate bench rest conditions.. Which im looking forward to doing...

I'm saying this as i don't want anyone to misread that i did this left hand..

gotta love it

Greg, looks good, where's the other 195 rounds??? you haven't taken up shooting on the fly again have you?Honestly your story on shooting at that sign ,off your bike,is classic biker gold.

I don't know if you saw my target pictures i posted but they are in there, seeing as how we are both old PPC shooters,i admire what you 2 did, sounds like Vaq mixed you up a nice batch,i had a guy reloading for me once, used to get 9mm 50 @ 5.00 per box, went thru about 400-600 rounds a week.

Looking forward to more targets with holes in them from you.

Start looking for pistols with lanyard rings.. easiest way to tell mil stuff of course.. and you need an old nagant or victory on the wall..

Do you have anything special your looking for, or just one of those everything and anything deals..

greg, mostly FFL but

there are always some individuals selling some stuff, I am going to try and meet up with Bob and I sent ooze rat a PM to see if he was going (though I bet he will be working). I'm not looking for anything in particular but if I see something cool for the right price I may buy it, I just like to go and wander around.

I don't mind the FFL

thing, with a CC you avoid getting hammered with the fees but I do get tired of filling out the 4473's though. I always have reservations about how to answer question "F" about being 'mentally defective', after all I am surrounded by guns and ammo and am a member of Gunslot....LOL!

To go along with what Greg said: some handguns that would fit it well with your vintage military rifles would include (but not limited to) military 1911 or 1911A1, Walther P38, S&W Victory Model (both in .38-200 and .38 Special), various Soviet era handguns, etc., etc.
LLE, Sam, Schuyler, Greg and others can fill out this list.

thanks for the suggestions. I might fish around on gunbroker as well. Even though it's not military nor real old I was interested in the Intratec Tec DC9 machine pistol that robduby76 posted for sale, I suggested that if he list it on gunbroker I would buy it but no response....Oh well!
