present for daisycutter.

This is the bird that cutter and i flew on back "in the day" .. Lockhead P3C Orian.. in those days we didnt have low vis paint but other than that the same airframe minus all the digital electronics on todays.. still has the same four Alison T-56 constant speed turbo jets, and the four huge Hamilton Standard props.. This is the same power plant and props as the C-130, another equally long lived bird.. hope you guys enjoy..

i was so amazed i got this thing to save and open for me, i didn't check my comments.. anyway both of the air frames used the same package they just turned it upside down for the 130's

typical geezer stuff to do.. we have to drive down to the valley which is like 4 hrs round trip.
When we first fell in love with the remoteness of our property i dont think we really considered the drive, so now we get to bitch about it.. Naw im bsing actually its a pretty drive and we always enjoy it.. my back just wishes it werent so far.. I have all sorta of good 1/2 liter beer glasses and stines from when i was in Germany.. non from the PI with the exception of a sword that has my name, and a sceen carved into it made out of buffalo horn.. yep.. "love you no bullshit buy me rum coke" was like the first non tagolog thing they learned.. ah to be 20 again..

huh? That and $1.65 will get me a cup of coffee in the cheaper places.
I am a member of a "Pioneers of P3 Orion" group. It is for VP-1. My P3 experience goes way earlier than them though. I was in VP-9 in 1965.
That was back when they were using photoflash in launchers mounted just forward of the MAD boom.

just one pitch off off "feather" if i remember right that was the position that just flat PULLED! really grabbing a lot of air. can't for the life of me get the degree... the only one i remember is the reverse.. you could get 14 degree reverse.. for the quick stops.. you could back them up, but i don't think we ever did.. sure remember the clear plastic guards on the overhead..flip to expose the feather switch.. and to shut down or re light.. and always got a kick out of the little steering wheel..

few times when we were places with little or no GS .
I like the cute little nose steering wheel too.
When I sat the engineer seat they did the same emergency drill as with the regular guys. Fire alarm on one of the engines, pull "E" handle and push little red fire extinguisher button. After each drill I was a little worried because if they did not pop the circuit breaker for the extinuisher BINGO, one fouled engine!
I liked sitting engineer, good view and more to do than being bored while transiting

expecting our big "procedure" doc or his people to call today.. to set up mine..think God i can have it.. and hope you have yours..our appt is just the usual geezer stuff..routine..dont remember any thing but the sono chutes also fwd of the mad boom...we had old A's and then B's i was out before the C... But i did get some time on the P2V's as ive told ya, and that was my favorite..you know how we were use to the fixed wing of the Orion...the Neptune has a flex wing as its not loaded with fuel...and sorta odd the first time you look out and see it floping around llike a bird...that and the "crawl" thru bomb bay that you lie on your back on a little skid and pull your self along with ropes... sorta low tech...sorta me..man i loved that bird...and if i got a break...(all radio no FE on the P-2) i would go fwd and sit out in the clear plastic bubble.. the most amazing views ive ever had in my life.. The seat is supported and your completly exposed and surrounded by Pglass..When we were in Rota we hosted a reserve outfit that was still flying them, and we would go all the way to Italy and back. was worth all the crap that went with being in Spain.. telling you over flying the Med with a view like that is pricless..
