Primer pockets

Primer pockets

I was sorting brass after shooting ,cuz I always pick up more than I shoot :) ....
Culled these during a quick visual inspection. Yep, my reloads. I've had most of the .38 brass for about 15 years now. No telling how many rounds have been through these.

Honestly

I don't count. Split case mouths are more common, but when seating primers I feel for resistance and cull those that seem loose. The far left is LC 79. Probly been run 20 times or so. Just guessing.
My .38 loads are mild. Most run around 750 fps, CUP is well below standard.

I hope you mean loading cartridges and not your liver...

I'd guess the carbon mix in the steel batch was off just a bit. Too much would be brittle and could cause splitting. Too little would be softer and should react more like brass. Just a guess. I haven't noticed any steel cases splitting from my SKS. I'll check a few next time I take her for a spin.
