Reasonable Suspicion - How About 30 People in a Pickup Truck?

Reasonable Suspicion - How About 30 People in a Pickup Truck?

American Patrol Report -- May 5

People loaded on a truck north of the border near Interstate 8 in Arizona. What do you think they are doing? Going to a Kiwanis meeting?
The new Arizona law dealing with illegal aliens requires police to check with federal authorities on a person's immigration status, if officers have stopped that person for some legitimate reason and come to suspect that he or she might be in the U.S. illegally. The heart of the law is this provision: "For any lawful contact made by a law enforcement official or a law enforcement agency... where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person..." (Washington Examiner)
As part of a continuing stream of reports from "vigilant citizens," today we present a report based on video from trail cameras placed near Interstate 8 last month by a "concerned citizen." It is estimated that 300 people passed this camera location loaded onto pickup trucks – in one month. This is a well-known smuggling route near where the Pinal County Deputy was ambushed. It would be an ideal spot for the National Guard.
If you saw 30 people piled into a pickup truck, would you have a reasonable suspicion that these people were unlawfully in the United States? You bet.
