What do you you all think 270 for deer hunting?
The .270 is great for deer. Really any centerfire from .22 to .30 is good to go. We're talking white tail, right? .270 is great for Mulies too and it's flat trajectory is good for those long shots you usually see mulies at, I hear.
was at MacDill afb yesterday hair cut and went in to the exchange they are going to sell rifles and pistols at the end of this month and i got a nice line of credit yesterday :>) christmas coming early :>)...........
I am planning on buying one
Well, I'd say you made a great choice. I'm a big fan of big green. The 700 is proven. The only problem I have with them is there are so many variants, it's hard to keep track of which is what. Which one are you thinking about? BDL? CDL? The new 700 BDL 50th anniversary edition looks real nice, but it's about $400 more. Also, it only comes in 7mm Rem Mag. Not that I think that's a bad thing. The 7mm is a great round, probably better than the .270. But it's not as common and a little more expensive.
The 700 BDL is a great rifle. I have the same one pictured above just in .30-06. It's killed many deer, but the stock will scratch if your not careful.
I don't mind about scratching a hunting rifle, it means it was out hunting. I have never been a fan of composite stocks, it is a personal preference.
Composite has no soul. Scratches are character. Cracks are additional recoil buffers. :)
I used to deer hunt with an 870 3 1/2", I now use a benelli. The 870 came with a 3" slug barrel, it is now my slug gun. it is scratched to hell and has many stories to along with them.
Hopefully the barrel is a 3" chamber and not 3" long. lol Could you imagine? Ouch!
