Not bad but I had to make a bipod change from the prince m60 style to the match grade. It took a little fitting but maybe this one won't break loose in timed fire
Which way are my people going? I have to lead them there!
Margaritaville,
what caliber is that rifle? Did you build it from a kit or buy it? and Finally how does it shoot, what does the paper down range tell you about it?
thanks, I also think it is a sweet rifle.
btw, which reticule are you using for your NF scope?
I know a lot of questions, but it is nice to get back to guns on gunslot.

It is a gen 2 Armalite 50bmg. Not the newest but it is barely broken in at 200 rnds. Most of the gun is original but there is some customizations. The scope is a12x42x56. She shoots well enough for a third place in group and score at last Octobers regional match.

The most work is yet to happen as my shooting is not as expirenced as many of the competitors who were not at the last match. I have been informed that some of the better shots will be there this March.

I have been looking at the NF scopes. I am unsure which reticle to buy with it though. Do you know which one you have and if so, are you happy? I am seriously contemplating the H53 reticle, but with out a computer I do not know if it would help.
Good luck in March.

To tell you the truth both Nightforce and Sightron are really good quality names in competition. They both provide excellent visual clarity color , shape and legibility at serious range. However mine is Moa dot whatever they call it. I was just so lucky to meet someone who could trade for what I wanted second hand. If you want I can get you contact with a Nightforce vendor I know who is really reasonable. Not just over the counter at some package store. I can personally vouch for him.

Maybe a bit off topic, but i'm looking into scopes for long range shooting. I was looking at a Millett, do you think nightforce is better? Haven't used either at range...

I really can't answer that because there are too many variables to subject. What kind of shooting(hunting , sihlouettes, target, extreme range) you are doing can be specific. The days of just grabbing a bushnell 3x9x40 aren't gone but can be so extremely specific to what youare doing. Optics are our drug of choice. What effect are you looking for? Mil dot , MoA, ranging lines of stadia, sizing ,BDC,and the list is just beginning. Getting the right one is like asking a doctor for a pill that Takes away back and neck pain, but you can still drive. I go for clarity over magnification, but really get more power than you will need. At some point you will have to crank under mirage and still hold range. I have a friend with a Leupold vxIII who is still finding out his limitations and snorts and giggles over his "x" count.

Target shooting.... 1K max range. My round of choice is .308. Will not be using for hunting, have enough scopes for that. I am not opposed to trying new reticles, but perfer mil-dot ( have been using for years). I've made shots out to just over 800 meters, but am now wanting to focus on percision, not just hitting. Need to keep in the $1000 or less range. Haven't done any formal matches on long range, just 3-gun and tactical matchs.

I have an old Nagant that the action and barrel are in excellent shape but the furniture was/is not, I bought a 'Boyd's' stalk for it and am looking for optics to mount. Obviously not in the .50 BMG league but the 7.62X54 will shoot a ways.....

Wow . I think you have a more serious take on things than I do. I can't say that I know squat about Millet optics other than their name keeps coming up. Guess that I have some study to do there. Secret to success may be in study with a spotter next to you. Or someone under the target . If you are in Killeen then I'd reccommend Tiger Valley range outside Waco . T.J. is really accessable for ideas. Having someone under your target there can be essential to getting "on" with your round and gun/optics.

I wish I could help with a good idea there for work but it's slow season for us at work where I'm at. Now I even get lunches. Back to the scope idea though I love my NF. This was so much more than I bargained for when I got it. Thank the shooting gods for second hand deals. The NFNXS that I got Cabellas priced at $2600. That isn't what I paid , and I really do appreciate the man who didn't try to get new price for it . He was a very honorable person who did not try to take advantage of me knowing I'd have cut out a kidney for it.

I got the little brown eyed girl a 2year membership and magazine subscription to the FCSA. I may have the greatest wife of all!! She was so happy. Now I have to come up with something big for our next anniversary.

That's just like the stock on my Howa 1500 22-250 I love it. Great minds or something.

Thanks... I'll look into it. I've recently become un-employed, so I have more time for hobbies. Already broke out the golf clubs. LOL!
